Installation and check of backlashes in radical bearings
The selection of new loose leaves of radical bearings A warning Description only applies to the standard size main bearings. Repair loose leaves into size groups are not divided.
Codes dimensional group of main and connecting rod bearings
| 1. Indigenous bearings
2. Connecting rod bearings
New crankshaft bearings are selected in accordance with identification codes supported on the crankshaft and the engine block. |
On the crankshaft codes marked on the cheek neck of 1st cylinder (from the cover of a chain). A five-digit code refers to the diameter of the main bearing, the first digit represents the code for the 1st main journal of the crankshaft, and the fifth - the code for the 5th cervical. A warning In some engines on the cheek of the crankshaft also marked the four-digit code that indicates the dimension of the connecting rod bearing group (see. Subsection 3.2.2.10.2).
Codes size groups bores under radical loose leaves
| On engines codes size groups bores under radical loose leaves are stamped at the bottom of the cylinder (indicated by arrow). |
In the cylinder block dimensional codes are stamped in the bottom of the flywheel side. On engines there is only a five-digit code, the first digit in the code refers to the 1st radical neck of the crankshaft, and the fifth - in the 5th neck.
To find the main bearing shells need to know the dimension group for boring under the liner, stamped on the engine block, and code size group corresponding radical neck, which is applied to the crankshaft, and then attached table to determine the correct insert, focusing on the color marking that as a point applied on its lateral surface.
Code crankshaft | Code on the cylinder block | Marking indigenous liner | 0 | 0 | black | 0 | 1 | brown | 0 | 2 | green | 0 | 3 | yellow | 1 | 0 | brown | 1 | 1 | green | 1 | 2 | yellow | 1 | 3 | blue | 2 | 0 | green | 2 | 1 | yellow | 2 | 2 | blue | 2 | 3 | pink | 3 | 0 | yellow | 3 | 1 | blue | 3 | 2 | pink | 3 | 3 | white (or not) |
Checking backlashes in radical bearings PERFORMANCE ORDER | 1. Clean the outer surface of new radical loose leaves, under the surface of the bore liners in the cylinder block and main bearing caps. | | 2. Press down on the liner, put him in his place. Ensure that the lug (arrow) in the bearing shell entered the sample in the bore of the cylinder or in the framework of covers of radical loose leaves. It does not touch the working surface of the finger pads. | 3. Keep in mind that all of the upper main bearing shells are provided oil groove and a hole for the oil supply. Lower liners solid. | | 4. Install the cover in the lower liners (the groove and the hole in these inserts are not available), and aligning the protrusion with the recess. | 5. If the clearance is checked for inserts that were in operation, then make sure that the liners were installed in its place. The gap can be checked in two ways. | 6. When determining the gap the first method you must install the cover (or frame covers) radical bearings with loose leaves on the cylinder block (to measure in this way need special measuring equipment - bore gauge with dial gauge, micrometer or telescoping, and the usual mic). Tighten bolts of covers (frame) with the specified torque and measure the inner diameter of each collected a pair of inserts. Backlash in radical bearings is defined as the difference between the internal diameter of the main bearing collected and measured the diameter of the main journals of the crankshaft. | 7. The second method (more accurate) is to apply the plastic gauge wire Plastigage round section (invented and manufactured in the USA). The wire is flattened between the bearing and crankshaft journal. After removing the bearing cap wire remains in the collapsed state. Comparing the width of the crushed wire with a scale attached to the kit, you can determine the bearing clearance. Gauge wires are available in the service car service dealer. If you wire the dealer will not appear, it can be purchased on inquiry the agents specializing in supplying parts for engines and obtaining information about the availability of this product in your region. Checking clearance by fire as follows. | 8. Replace the radical loose leaves, gently place the crankshaft. No lubrication on the crankshaft journal is not allowed. Radical neck must be clean and dry. | | 9. Prepare several pieces of plastic gauge wire Plastigage, the length of which is slightly smaller width of the main bearings, and put on one segment on each radical neck parallel to the axis of the crankshaft. | 10. Install the cover on the lower liners. When installing the covers be guided by the existing labels on them to install the cover to its original position. | 11. Install the cast frame main bearing caps, tighten the bolts and tighten them. During the tightening position of the segment of wire must not be changed, the rotation of the crankshaft is not allowed. | 12. On all engines, unscrew the cap bolts. Loosen the bolts in the reverse sequence of one turn for the reception. Unscrew and remove the bolts, remove them from the cylinder. | 13. Remove the crankshaft bearing caps (lids or frame), again taking care not to change the position of the flattened wire gauge and cranked crankshaft. | | 14. Compare width of the crushed wire with a scale on packing and define backlash in the main bearing. Compare with the regulatory gap. | 15. Measure the clearance by comparing the width of the crushed wire gauge with a scale on the packaging | 16. If the backlash differs from standard, the reason can be the wrong selection of loose leaves (or increased wear if verified inserts were in operation). Before coming to a conclusion about the need to replace the inserts, make sure that between the caps and cylinder block and insert in the measurement no dirt or oil. If the width of a flattened wire with one end larger, it indicates a taper neck. | 17. If the backlash differs from the norm when measuring with the old pads, then repeat the measurement with new inserts. If, however, and with new inserts a gap higher than normal, you should consult Customer Car Dealer, or contact the person on the engine to get advice on how to proceed. It is also possible that you have to reground crankshaft journals and replace liners repair. | 18. If necessary, purchase inserts corresponding size group and repeat the measurement gap in radical bearings. | 19. At the end of a fingernail scrape or wood chip residues gauge wire to the crankshaft main journals, without damaging the surface. |

Final installation of the crankshaft PERFORMANCE ORDER | 1. Carefully remove the crankshaft of the engine block. | | 2. Install main bearing shells on the places guided by paragraphs. 5 and 6. If you install new liners, then rinse thoroughly in kerosene, removing the remains of the preservative. Cloth lint-free cloth, wipe the pads and connecting rods. Liberally lubricate the engine with fresh oil to the surface of the liner installed in the engine block. | | 3. Apply a thin layer of grease persistent half rings and attach them on both sides of the third main bearing. Note that the lubricating groove on both half-rings have been turned away from the cylinder. | 4. Set the crankshaft in the cylinder block and check the axial clearance (see. Subsection 3.2.2.8.1). | 5. Thoroughly clean the grease from the plane split main bearing caps and cylinder block. | 6. Apply fresh oil to the surface of the engine lower liners. Make sure that the mounting tabs on the inserts go into the recesses in the covers. | | 7. Install main bearing shells on former places, focusing on labels. | | 8. Place the cast frame main bearing caps, tighten the bolts and tighten them while only by hand. | | 9. Tighten bolts of covers in the sequence shown in the figure with a given point of the 1st stage. | | 10. Use a torque wrench to tighten the face head cap bolts with the set moment of the 1st stage. | | 11. Tighten the screws on the angle corresponding to the 2nd stage of the tightening, following the sequence shown. If there is no key with angular scale, then tighten the bolts with a torque wrench to a torque specified for the 2nd stage of the tightening. | 12. Check up freedom of rotation of the crankshaft, and then set the rest of the details (see. Pp. 13-16). | 13. Check the cleanliness of the split surfaces of the rear oil seal and the cylinder. Apply a label indicating the depth of planting oil seal in the holder, and then remove the seal from the holder, hooked his big flat-blade screwdriver. | 14. Install the new oil seal in the holder, making sure the sponge working edges facing the engine. Press in the gland light hammer blows to a depth that corresponds to the labels put before removal of waste oil seal. | 15. Check the available guide pins, then apply to the surface of the split gland sealant strip. Put the holder on the crankshaft oil seal and replace the cylinder block. Tighten the bolts with the set moment. | 16. Establish a flywheel, chain drive camshafts and oil pan. |
