Before removing the pump, proceed as follows:

PERFORMANCE ORDER
1. Check for continuity of the electrical wires. Remove the trunk floor mat, remove the hatch in the floor for access to the fuel level sensor. Remove the sensor terminal block and check whether there is a bridge between the contacts of the central and lateral brown wires.
2. Check the fuse in the fuse box of the pump relay, ? 5 for Golf cars of release till 07.1989 and 12.1988, the Jetta up, ? 18 Golf cars of release with 08.1989 and 01.1989 Jetta issue with Mr.
3. Check the fuel pump relay (relay number, see. Subsection 12.1). To do this, disconnect the connector to the wires from the Hall sensor on the ignition distributor. Remove from the block of the relay and fuse the fuel pump relay. Voltmeter to check the voltage between terminals number 2 and "the masses?, ? 2 and 1, ? 4 and 1, ? 5 and 1 Relay and fuse (see. Fig. Relay and fuse on models of release with 08.1989 g). In each case, the voltmeter should read battery voltage.
4. Connect to the "weight" for a few seconds the central contact pad connecting to the fuel level sensor. If the voltage does not drop, the ignition control unit to check; If the voltage drops, replace the fuel pump relay. If you replace the relay voltage drops, check Hall sensor ignition distributor.
