The air conditioning system removes excess heat and moisture from the interior in accordance with the basic principles of physics. Refrigerant circulating a liquid in a part of the system where higher pressure is maintained, evaporated and gasified in the area of low pressure. When expanding gas cools accompanied by removal of heat from the air fed to the passenger compartment fan and lowering its temperature. Further, as it passes through the condenser coolant gives absorbed heat to the surrounding air. The cycle of heat transfer continues indefinitely as refrigerant in a closed circuit. Of the air supplied to the interior, moisture is removed by condensation on the refrigerating compartment evaporator.

The air conditioning system is a potential danger. With its service required to comply with certain rules. For most of the operations of repair and maintenance of the air conditioning system requires special equipment and certain skills.

Ventilation is provided by forming a body through-flow of air. Fresh air gets inside the vehicle through the air intake, located in front of the windshield. The flow of air out through the exhaust ports on the sides of the body near the rear shock absorbers.

The amount of air flow is regulated by a four-fan.

The heating system of air mixed type is designed to quickly respond to changes in temperature in the passenger compartment and reducing the temperature fluctuations of the heated air. The coolant engine cooling system constantly circulates in the radiator and heater coolant flow is not regulated. Regulated factor is the temperature, which varies the mixing valve, which determines the amount of air passing through the radiator heater before entering it into the interior of the vehicle.

To exclude getting into the car fresh air has recirculated air.

Precautions when servicing the air conditioning system

The air conditioning system charged with refrigerant "Freon R12", and the details of the system are under an operating pressure of over 300 atmospheres. The source of increased danger due to incorrect operation of untrained technicians and using improper equipment is a high pressure coolant and chemical exposure.

Car refrigerant "Freon R12" has a dangerous impact on the environment. To protect the environment the firm Volkswagen prescribes used in the air conditioning system depressurization equipment for recycling and processing provided with a certificate of insurance Laboratory (UL).
A warning

The air conditioning system should be serviced exclusively prepared technicians trained in safe working with the proper equipment in compliance with the rules of depressurization, acquainted with the methods of collection and storage procedures automotive refrigerant.

Do not allow coolant skin.

When working near the air-conditioning system, wear goggles.

After contact with the refrigerant to the skin or eyes do not rub the affected area. Rinse immediately with cold water for at least 15 minutes. Call a doctor or hospital. Self-medication is not permitted.

The new refrigerant cylinder is stored under pressure. Keep the bottle at a temperature no higher than 50 ? C Take measures to avoid the fall of the balloon from a height or other situations that could cause damage.

Work should be done in a well-ventilated area. The refrigerant evaporates, resulting in a decrease of oxygen and shortness of breath.

Refrigerant gas is heavier than air and relatively quickly should gather below, for example, under the car.

On combustion, forms toxic gas refrigerant. Keep refrigerant away from open sources of fire. Do not smoke. When using flaming leak detector avoid smoke inhalation.

When carrying out welding work near the air-conditioning system, always remove it from the refrigerant. Electric welding near the refrigerant pipe of the refrigerant can cause decomposition under the action of ultraviolet radiation.

Do not expose the details of the air conditioning system to heat or open flame. Overheating can lead to increased pressure in the system and inflammation.

Cleaning of the condenser or evaporator using steam is not allowed. Use only cold water or compressed air.
