Adjusting the gearshift

Adjustment without special tools
Adjust the gearshift sequence is as follows:
loosen the bolt rope to the gear lever and the nut of the hinge to the lever gear pre-selection;
lock the gear lever, or by setting the drill rod into the hole in the center of the shift lever;
move the shift lever to the neutral position;
tighten the bolt and nut ropes, then check the sharpness and smoothness of switching gears;
check the progress of the shaft gear selection mechanism, engage first gear and pressing the shift lever counterclockwise;

Checking the vertical movement shaft mechanism of a choice of transfers
Fig. 8.58. Checking the vertical movement shaft mechanism of a choice of transfers

Release the lever, measure the vertical movement of the shaft gear selection mechanism, which should be 1 mm (Fig. 8.58);

To adjust move the gear selection shaft, loosen the nut (A) and move the hinge on the cable direction
Fig. 8.59. To adjust move the gear selection shaft, loosen the nut (A) and move the hinge on the cable direction

Loosen the nut of the hinge arm to preselect gears and moving joint cable in the slot of the lever, set the desired movement of the shaft (Fig. 8.59);
perform fine adjustments with the help of a special device VW 3192.

Adjustment tool VW 3192
The adjustment of the switching mechanism of transmission using the tool performed as follows:
Set the gear lever to the neutral position and remove the handle from the gear lever;

Bolt rope gear (A) and nut with tip of a cable preselect gear (B)
Fig. 8.60. Bolt rope gear (A) and nut with tip of a cable preselect gear (B)

removing the protective cover, unscrew the bolt rope (Fig. 8.60) and gear nut to the tip of a cable pre-select gears so that each shift cable could move freely in the longitudinal holes;
Remove reversing light switch, located on the mechanism of a choice of transfers;

Adjusting the gearshift
Fig. 8.61. Adjusting the gearshift: 1 - the screw fastening adjuster; 2 - fixing screw gear lever; 3 - screw fixing the slide

in the car, loosen the screw at the front of the gear lever housing and set the adjuster 3192 (Fig. 8.61);
fastening hook adjuster put under the plate and fasten the screw (2). The shift lever is in the slot, slide the slide adjuster to the left;
gearshift lever and slide the adjuster fully to the left and secure the slide screw (3);
the shift lever in the slot adjuster to the right and tighten the screw (1);

Location of the plate with a slot (3192/1) and the guide pin at the shift lever
Fig. 8.62. Location of the plate with a slot (3192/1) and the guide pin at the shift lever

Set a plate with a slot and the guide pin in the shift lever on the transmission. Slide the plate between the gear lever and the lid, ensuring confident fixation plate (although it shall not raise the gear lever) (Fig. 8.62);
fasten both shift cable (cable between the stop and the clamping bolt at the same time to be stretched) and remove the plate with the guide pin, and the adjuster;
the shift lever in the neutral position must be in slots 3 and 4 of the transmission.
fully press the clutch, consistently include all transfers. If the inclusion of any transfer takes more than one attempt to check the movement of the shaft mechanism of a choice of transfers on a transmission (see. Fig. 8.58).
