Check engine oil level and its replacement

Engine oil level should be checked regularly every 600 km, but at least once a week. The car thus should stand on a flat surface, and idle the engine must be still warm. If the engine is hot, wait some minutes that oil has flown down in the pallet.

Dipstick Engine oil

To check the oil level, remove the dipstick and wipe it with a clean cloth. Then reinsert the dipstick and pull it out again. The oil level should be between the upper and lower risks. On the dipstick can be coated with various labeling (Fig. 10).
Depending on the level of the oil proceed as follows:
- If the oil level is within the range of a, the engine oil level is correct and refill is not required;
- If the oil level is within the scope of b, then the amount of oil in the engine generally sufficient, but it is possible to add to the risks of b;
- If the level of oil stored in an area, it is necessary to add oil to the engine at least to a level within the region b.
Do not overfill above the top risks, since it can be sucked into the crankcase ventilation system and contaminating the air filter and besides damaging the catalyst. For the 2.0-liter engine with the oil filter when changing the oil will require 4.7 liters and the engine VR6 (with filter) - 5.5 liters.
Every 10 000 km or at least once a year should be to replace the engine oil and oil filter. This oil change intervals considered normal under normal driving the vehicle. If you often drive with a trailer on dusty roads or take short trips (7-8 km) when the air temperature is below zero, or often stuck in traffic jams, where the engine for a long time idling, then replace the oil more frequently.
?Volkswagen? recommends oil, which must comply with the company - ? 500 501 00 or 01. Always make sure to fill in oil corresponds to this rule.
Before replacing the oil, set the car on the overpass, the lift or a viewing ditch. Remove the plate guard. Place a container to collect the used oil and remove the screw drain plug in the sump. In order to speed up the discharge of oil, remove the filler cap or remove the oil dipstick. Engine oil should be warm, but not hot. After draining the oil drain plug, wipe with a cloth and twist it. Fill meets the requirements of the oil to a normal level in accordance with the testimony of the dipstick and replace the oil filter (replacement of the oil filter is described below).

A warning
