Cooling system



Device features
Engines Hyundai vehicles equipped with a circulating cooling system. For the coolant is a centrifugal pump. The engine cooling system consists of a cooling jacket, a radiator with electric, centrifugal water pump, thermostat and hoses. The cooling system operates with a separate expansion tank.
Control circuit coolant thermostatic. While the engine is cold, coolant circulates only in the cylinder head, cylinder block and the heat exchanger. As the engine warms up the thermostat opens the large cooling circuit. The coolant begins to be fed continuously operating pump through the radiator cooling system. The coolant passes through the radiator downward, passing between the plates cools the radiator air.
When the coolant temperature is in the range 92-97 ?� C, thermal switch comprises a radiator fan assembly. The electric fan driven by a motor and runs as long as the coolant temperature drops below 84-91 ?� C.

A WARNING
Be careful - sink the fan may turn on and switch off the ignition. Because of the heat in the engine compartment, it can happen a few times.

Due to the fact that the fan running all the time, the net power of the engine is increased, fuel consumption is reduced.

The radiator cooling system bladed aluminum, with plastic tank. Coolant is poured into the system through the surge tank filler pipe, which tube is provided with inlet and outlet valves.

Checking the tightness of the cooling system
Wait until the engine has cooled down, then carefully remove radiator cap.
Check the coolant level (should be at the lower edge of the neck of the radiator).
Install the heat sink onto the neck of the device to check the radiator tubes and create a system pressure of 140 kPa (1.4 kgf / cm 2). By maintaining this pressure for 2 minutes, make sure no fluid leaks from the system through the hoses and connections.
If leakage of liquid eliminate them or replace faulty parts.

NOTE
The coolant temperature can be very high. Do not open the cooling system for the engine is hot, as this may release the hot liquid and cause burns. Before working on the cooling system only after the cooling of the engine.

Be sure to wipe testable nodes and connections of the cooling system.
When removing the screening device, take care that it is not resulted from the coolant.
During installation, testing, and removing the screening devices be careful not to deform the neck of the radiator.

Remove the radiator cap, moisten the cork gasket coolant and replace the cap on the device to check (Fig. 2.89).
Create a device to pressure until no longer deflect the pressure gauge device.

NOTE
The opening pressure of the steam valve - 78-108 kPa (0.8-1.1 kg / cm 2).
Limit - 65 kPa (0.66 kgf / cm 2).

Make sure that the opening of valves at a pressure of not less than specified.
If the valve starts opening at a lower pressure, replace radiator cap.

NOTE
Before testing, ensure clean radiator cap if the gasket stopper has rust or other contaminants, the test results will be inaccurate.

Substitution coolant
Coolant should be changed only after the repair of the cooling system, in which the liquid is discharged. Replacing part of the annual maintenance is not provided. If the repair replaced the cylinder head, cylinder head gasket, radiator, heater radiator or engine coolant in any case, should be replaced. This is required for the reason that the anti-corrosion particles in the running-in phase, precipitating on cooling system parts made of light metal alloys to help create a durable anti-corrosion layer. The proportion of anti-corrosion particles in a used liquid is not so great as to create a new detail sufficient protective layer.

WARNINGS
You can not reuse the drained coolant - it is poisonous. It can not simply be poured down the drain or on the ground. Dispose of the coolant in specially designated areas.
When draining the coolant, make sure that the lid was closed relay box, keep water on the electrical components and body paint. If fluid is spilled, immediately wash it off with plenty of water.

Set the temperature selector knob to a position corresponding to the maximum temperature of air supplied to the cabin. Make sure the engine and radiator are cool to the touch.
Remove the radiator cap.
Tighten the radiator drain plug.

Loosen the drain plug (Fig. 2.90), and drain the coolant.
Remove the expansion tank, drain the liquid and place the tank in place.
Fill the reservoir with distilled water up to the level between the marks ?�MIN?� and ?�MAX", then ethylene up to the mark "MAX".
Fill the radiator with coolant up to the lower edge of the cap and install the radiator cap, without tightening it.
Start up the engine and warm up until the engine, run the engine to restart fan.
Stop the engine. Check and if necessary restore to normal liquid level in the radiator.
Tighten the radiator cap, and then start up the engine and check for leaks.
Checking coolant density
Coolant year round must be filled with a solution of ethylene glycol in water, which prevents damage due to freezing and corrosion, scale build-up and, moreover, increases the boiling point of the coolant. The loop cooling system
due to expansion of the liquid during heating is pressurized, which also contributes to the boiling point of the liquid. The pressure valve is limited in the expansion tank cap. Higher boiling point coolant is necessary for the normal operation of the cooling system. At too low a boiling point may be formed in the steam tube, because it may damage the cooling circuit and reducing engine cooling. Therefore, the cooling system throughout the year should be filled with antifreeze.
As the coolant can be used only with an ethylene glycol antifreeze to parts made of aluminum alloys.

NOTE
The coolant level is advisable to check the engine is cold, because when heated its volume increases and warm engine liquid level can rise significantly.

Remove the radiator cap.
Check hydrometer density coolant that should be 1,078-1,085 g / cm 3.

Checking the tightness of the cooling system
Wait until the engine has cooled down, then carefully remove radiator cap.
Check the coolant level (should be at the lower edge of the neck of the radiator).
Install the heat sink onto the neck of the device to check the radiator tubes and create a system pressure of 140 kPa
(1.4 kgf / cm 2). By maintaining this pressure for 2 minutes, make sure no fluid leaks from the system through the hoses and connections.
If leakage of liquid eliminate them or replace faulty parts.

WARNINGS
Coolant can be very hot. Do not open the cooling system for the engine is hot, since it can be blown hot liquid and cause burns. Get to work with the cooling system only after the cooling of the engine.
Be sure to wipe testable nodes and connections of the cooling system.
When removing the screening device, take care that it is not resulted from the coolant.
During installation, testing, and removing the screening device, take care not to deform the neck of the radiator.

Remove the radiator cap, moisten the cork gasket coolant and replace the cap on the device to check (Fig. 2.109).
Create a device to pressure until the pressure gauge device is no longer rejected.

NOTE
The opening pressure of the steam valve 78-108 kPa (0.8-1.1 kg / cm 2), the limit value of 65 kPa (0.66 kgf / cm 2).

Make sure that the valves open at a pressure of not less than specified.
If the opening of the valve takes place at a lower pressure, replace radiator cap.

NOTE
Before testing, ensure clean radiator cap, as if laying cork has traces of rust or other contaminants, the test results will be inaccurate.

Substitution coolant
Coolant should be changed only after the repair of the cooling system, in which the liquid is discharged. Replacing part of the annual maintenance is not provided. If the repair replaced the cylinder head, head gasket, radiator, heater radiator or engine coolant in any case, should be replaced. This is required for the reason that corrosion particles settling in the running-on phase of the cooling system parts made of light metal alloys to help create a durable anti-corrosion layer. In a used liquid share anticorrosive particles is not so great to create a new detail sufficient protective layer.

WARNINGS
Do not reuse the drained coolant. The liquid is toxic - it can not be poured down the drain or on the ground. Dispose of the coolant in specially designated areas.
When draining the coolant, make sure that the lid was closed relay box, keep water on the electrical components and body paint. If fluid is spilled, wash immediately with plenty of water.

Set the temperature selector knob to a position corresponding to the maximum temperature of air supplied to the cabin. Make sure the engine and radiator are cool to the touch.
Remove the radiator cap.

Loosen the drain plug (Fig. 2.110) and drain the coolant.
Tighten the radiator drain plug.
Remove the expansion tank, drain the liquid and place the tank in place.
Fill the reservoir with distilled water up to the level between the marks ?�MIN?� and ?�MAX", then ethylene up to the mark "MAX".
Fill the radiator with coolant up to the lower edge of the cap and install the radiator cap, without tightening it.
Start up the engine and warm up until the engine, run the engine to restart fan.
Stop the engine. Check and if necessary restore to normal liquid level in the radiator.
Tighten the radiator cap, and then start up the engine and check for leaks.
Checking coolant density
Coolant year round must be filled with a solution of ethylene glycol in water, it prevents damage caused by freezing and corrosion, scale build-up and, moreover, increases the boiling point of the coolant. The circuit of the cooling system due to expansion of the liquid when heated creates overpressure, which also contributes to the boiling point of the liquid. The pressure valve is limited in the expansion tank cap. Higher boiling point coolant is necessary for the normal operation of the cooling system. At too low a boiling point may be formed in the steam tube, because it may damage the cooling circuit and the deterioration of the engine cooling. Therefore, the cooling system throughout the year should be filled with antifreeze.
As the coolant can be used only with an ethylene glycol antifreeze to parts made of aluminum alloys.
Remove the radiator cap.

NOTE
The coolant level is advisable to check the engine is cold, because when heated its volume increases and warm engine liquid level can rise significantly.

Check hydrometer density coolant that should be 1,078-1,085 g / cm 3.

WARNINGS
When the concentration of ethylene is below 30% anticorrosive properties coolant are reduced.
At concentrations above 60% reduced frost and cooling properties of the fluid, which adversely affects engine performance. It is therefore necessary to maintain the concentration of ethylene glycol in the above range.
Do not mix fluids of different brands.

If the level in the reservoir is below the norm, and the density of the liquid above this, add distilled water. If the density
normal, top up the fluid of the same brand as the liquid is poured into the cooling system. If the density is lower than normal, bring it back to normal, adding the concentrate.

Check the radiator cap for damage, cracks and deterioration of the gasket material (loss of elasticity) (Fig. 2.122).
Connect the plug to the device to check the radiator cap.

With the help of a pump device create pressure to cease deflection gauge needle (Fig. 2.123).
Radiator cap is OK if the pressure gauge needle for 10 shows the working pressure is higher.

Withdrawal
Drain the coolant so that its level in the cooling jacket of the engine has been at or below the thermostat.
Remove the inlet pipe and gasket.
Remove the thermostat.

Check the temperature of the thermostat valve opening, plunging the thermostat in hot coolant (Fig. 2.125). If necessary, replace the thermostat.
The onset temperature of the thermostat valve opening -82 ?� C.
Valve opening temperature of the thermostat -95 ?� C.
Setting
Check the thermostat valve flange landing in the nest thermostat housing. If the thermostat is not installed properly, it will cover the lower part of the rib in the transfer tube, causing a malfunction of the thermostat.
Install outlet pipe with a new gasket.
Fill in fresh coolant.

Withdrawal
Drain the coolant so that its level in the cooling jacket of the engine has been at or below the thermostat.
Remove the coolant temperature sensor.
Technical condition
Immerse sensor in hot coolant.

Check whether the sensor resistance normal (Fig. 2.126).
The sensor resistance at 20 ?� C should be 2,31-2,59 kW.
Setting
Screw hand coolant temperature sensor into the hole in the thermostat housing.
Tighten Torque 20-40 Nm.
Fill in fresh coolant.
