The components of the front axle (models 4WD)

1 - stabilizer bar
2 - The coupling unit (rack) stabilizer
3 - Coil spring
4 - tube regulator just right wheel steering rod
5 - Average Tie Rod
6 - Steering damper actuator

10 - Carter Bridge
11 - beam bridge with forked end
12 - Ball joint fastening fork beam to the steering knuckle (top mounts are not visible in the picture)
13 - CV-joint drive shaft
14 - Left tie rod end
15 - Tube regulator steering rod left wheel
16 - Connecting Rod Assembly

All models are described in the manual car brands equipped with a rigid front axle. On models 2WD applied continuous tubular sleeve; four-wheel drive (4WD) models of two steel sleeves are welded to the semi-axes of each of the parties to the cast iron differential housing (see chap. Clutch and transmission line). The front axle is suspended by two pairs of shock absorbers and coil springs. The four control arm suspension bridge provides freedom of movement in the vertical direction; horizontal displacements are limited by the cross-reactive rod. Stabilizer of transverse stability is to prevent the buildup of the body. Each of the knuckle is positioned by a pair of ball bearings, respectively, molded into the upper and lower ends of the bifurcated beams, welded to the ends of the bridge.

Rear suspension

The components of the rear suspension (shown model 4WD, models for nepolnoprivodnyh scheme is similar)

1 - Shock
2 - The coil spring
3 - Cross-reactive Rod
4 - Arm Bridge

5 - Differential
6 - stabilizer bar
7 - lower arm (the upper arms are not visible in the picture)

Rear Axle consists of cast-iron crankcase center, which houses the differential pair and tubular steel sleeves welded to the casing on both sides thereof (see chap. Clutch and transmission line). The rear axle is suspended by a pair of shock absorbers and two helical springs. The four control arm suspension bridge provides freedom of movement in the vertical direction; horizontal displacements are limited by the cross-reactive rod. Stabilizer of transverse stability is to prevent the buildup of the body.

Steering

The system used retsirkulyarno hydrostrengthening steering-ball-type steering box that transmits a rotational force applied to the steering wheel through the linkage of the steering actuator (fry, medium and connecting tie rods) levers steering knuckle steering wheels. The damper is mounted between the bridge and the average steering rod is used to mitigate the undesirable deflection of the steered wheels in the direction of the selected course of the suspension).

The shaft is attached to the steering mechanism, the steering box by a small universal joint. The design of the steering column ensures its storage impact during an accident.

National Service Road Safety USA (NHTSA) issued a special bulletin on the critical components of the steering column models 115,000 Jeep Grand Cherokee production from December 1992 to July 1993, which states that: "Made of plastic molded finger that is used to connect the top and bottom steering column shaft may be cut off during the installation of the steering column on the vehicle. In this case, the upper steering shaft can be separated from the bottom. " In turn, the "separation of the upper and lower steering shafts leads to a complete loss of control of a vehicle, which is fraught with occurrence of an emergency." If such a defect will be detected on your vehicle, please contact the dealer branch of Jeep / Chrysler, which are required to make a free appropriate repairs. Available special reinforcing sleeve designed for installation on an additional intermediate shaft to limit the backlash column. In case of problems, requiring repairs, call the local grid management company Chrysler - number can be found in Section "Maintenance" manual car. You may also be contacted by a "hot line" with management NHTSA (1-800-424-9393) or contact the reception of complaints by calling (800) 424-9153.

When working with the components of the suspension and steering can often encounter problems related to the fixing of giving. Fasteners located underneath the vehicle, and is subject to constant moisture, road film, dirt, etc., which causes it to "kick is" and complications when giving. To reduce the risk of giving such damage "become attached" fixture produced a lot of different types of penetrating composition, which for some should be impregnated with the fixing unit before giving. Cleaning of the open threaded fasteners with a wire brush and reduces the risk of damage to the threads in the nuts and bolts of giving. Often destroy "spike" with bolts manages with the help of sharp hammer blows (punch through), but you should take precautions against the punch coming off from the outer surface fixture and hit it on the threaded portion. Extremely effective is also warming up the fixing unit gas cutting torch, but in practice the use of this method is not desirable because of the real danger of fire. Use of various types of collars and extension pipes can significantly increase the amount of torque applied to the head of the key, but do not apply the extension tubes complete with ratchet drive - it is fraught with failure of the ratchet mechanism. Sometimes stronut "become attached" bolt or nut helps to attempt its rotation in the direction of twist (clockwise). Fasteners, giving of which has caused particular difficulties in assembling units should be replaced.

Since most of the procedures described in this section assumes the car jacking and execution of works under him, should take care of a strong props to hold the vehicle in the raised position. For lifting a vehicle jack is preferable to use a carriage-type, which can also be used to separate components in Propping Progress.

In no event should not be the performance of work under the vehicle to rely on the reliability of its fastening in the raised position solely by jacks!

After loosening or removing any fastener of the suspension components or steering should be carefully inspected and, if necessary, replace the (corresponding by size and structure). When assembling it is necessary to pay close attention to the observance of the recommended spice effort tightening of carving connections. In no case do not try to warm up or otherwise straighten deformed suspension components and steering - always replace them with new ones.
