Check of a free wheeling of a steering wheel

PERFORMANCE ORDER
1. Turn off the engine and set the steering wheel to the center position. Then, turn the steering wheel left and right to the position in which the resistance is felt. Free running wheel, as measured by its edge, should not exceed 30 mm. Increased free stroke, indicating an improper adjustment of the steering transmission, leads to deterioration of the intermediate shaft joints of the steering column, as well as tips of steering drafts or ball joints.
2. To test hinges steering column several times to check the play in the touch cardan lower floor panel. Backlash between the lower hinges connecting the steering column to the gear shaft on the floor panel, is transmitted to the steering column assembly.
3. Lift the wheel off the ground on both sides and check the draft. Check for vibrations in the wheel. To check the correct adjustment of front wheel bearings, wheel set center position, then ask the assistant to hold the bottom hinge of a steering column from inside the car and check the clearance of the wheels in a parallel direction. If there is play in the direction parallel to check the gap at the tip of steering draft or tightness in conjunction with the stub axle.
4. If the gap in the tie rod end is absent, the play of wheels in a parallel direction can be caused by wear tie rod and ball joint or too large a gap between the pinion and rack. In all these cases, disassemble, adjust, repair or replace the steering gear.
