Preliminary checks of the engine

Check and adjust the engine, as described below.

MOTOR OIL

Using the dipstick check the oil level and condition. If necessary, add or change the oil.

Coolant level (check the engine is cold)

PERFORMANCE ORDER
1. Check that the coolant level at the radiator filler opening.
2. Make sure that the coolant level in the expansion tank is between the FULL and LOW.

ACCUMULATOR BATTERY

PERFORMANCE ORDER
1. Check for corrosion on the terminals or weaken their connections with wires. If necessary, clean and tighten.
2. Make sure that the electrolyte level is between the UPPER and LOWER. If needed, add distilled water.
3. Use a hydrometer to measure the density of the electrolyte. If the density decreased to 1,200 or less, put the battery on charge.

The air filter element

Inspect the element to determine whether excessive dirt, damage or oil. If necessary, clean or replace it.

A warning

When cleaning the air filter element, first completely remove the dust from the inner surface thereof, and then - to the outside.

CHECK ignition timing

PERFORMANCE ORDER
1. Warm up the engine and let it run at idle.
2. Set the gear lever to the neutral position
3. Set the front wheels to the center position.
4. Turn off all electrical consumers.
5. Connect the connector stroboscope and special device KJ-1.
6. Aim the strobe light on the crankshaft pulley and make sure that the label for setting the ignition timing on the crankshaft pulley (yellow) is aligned with a corresponding mark on the casing of a gear belt.

Ignition timing:
FE DOHC: 10 ? 1 ? BTDC
T8 DOHC: 10 ? 3 ? to TDC

A warning

There is no need to change the ignition timing.

Engine speed IDLE SPEED

Measure the rotational speed of the crankshaft of the engine idling.

The frequency of rotation of the crankshaft of the engine idling:

FE DOHC 800 ? 50 min -1
T8 DOHC 800 ? 50 min -1

A warning

The frequency of rotation of the crankshaft of the engine idling supported automatically the engine control unit (PCM) through the electromagnetic valve of idling (IAS) and to adjust the speed at idle is not necessary.
