Check of a steering without the hydraulic amplifier



Install the front wheels to straight-line motion, gently turn the steering wheel left and right until the occurrence of notable resistance and measure the steering gear backlash.
Luft measure the outside diameter of the steering wheel. Steering Wheel Play should not exceed 30 mm.

If the play exceeds the limit, then worn intermediate shaft universal joints of the steering column, spherical rod ends or incorrectly adjusted preload steering transfer.

To check the play of the steering column connections Grasp the connection and turn the steering wheel in various directions. Any play between the steering shaft, the intermediate shaft and the shaft pinion steering gear will be felt.

Check the connecting rods, lifting both wheels on the floor. Check the clearance of each wheel. The first rocking wheel in the vertical plane to ensure that the front wheels of the bearings are adjusted properly. Then shake the wheel in the horizontal plane, while the assistant checks the clearance at the junction of the intermediate shaft and the pinion shaft of steering transfer. If there is a horizontal backlash wheels, check the condition of the track rod linkage or their attachment to the swivel. If the tie rods play no means worn out elements of the front suspension, or there is a significant gap between the pinion and rack gear. To address this backlash is necessary to remove the steering gear from the car and repair it.

Check of effort steering
PERFORMANCE ORDER
1. Lift the front of the vehicle. Establish a jack under the front suspension lower arms as close as possible to the wheels so that they do not interfere with rotation of the wheel
2. Turn the steering wheel from lock to lock at least 5 times to ensure that the elements of the front suspension and steering have been established in the normal state. Install the front wheels straight.
3. Hook the dynamometer for a steering wheel spoke in a place the most remote from the center of the wheel. With the front wheels established for rectilinear movement, measure the force that must be applied to the steering wheel to turn the wheel left and right.
4. The force of the steering wheel should be 5-20 h when turning the wheel one full turn from the center position.
5. If the force of the steering wheel exceeds the allowable value, check the elements of the front suspension and steering, as well as the pre-load of steering transfer.
