1. Examine each valve on revealing of following defects:
- Damage or deformation of the valve stem; - Damage to the valve plate; - Damage or uneven wear of the valve stem end. | | 2. Check the width of the chamfer at the end of the valve stem. If necessary, repair or replace the valve. The width of the chamfer: Intake valve: 1.0 mm Exhaust valve: 1.0 mm | | 3. Measure the length of each valve. | The length of the valve, mm | A5D | A3E | The intake valve | Rated | 96.450 | 104.950 | Minimum | 96.250 | 104.750 | The outlet valve | Rated | 95,550 | 103.450 | Minimum | 95.350 | 103.250 |
| | 4. micrometer at several places in height, measure the diameter of the valve stem. | The diameter of the valve stem, mm | A5D | A3E | The intake valve | Rated | 5,465-5,480 | 6,455-6,470 | Minimum | 5,425 | 6,415 | The outlet valve | Rated | 5,430-5,450 | 6,450-6,465 | Minimum | 5,390 | 6,410 |
| | 5. Nutromer in several places, measure the inside diameter of the valve guides. The inner diameter of guides: Engine A5D: 5,500-5,515 mm Engine A3E: 6,500-6,515 mm | | 6. Calculate the gap between the guide sleeve and valve stem. For this subtract the outer diameter of the valve stem from the inner diameter of the corresponding valve guide. Gap: Engine A5D: Intake valve: 0,020-0,050 mm Exhaust valve: 0,050-0,085 mm Engine A3E: Intake valve: 0,030-0,060 mm Exhaust valve: 0,035-0,065 mm | 7. If the backlash exceeds the limit, replace the valve and / or valve guide. | | | 8. Measure the height of each protrusion of the valve sleeve. If necessary, replace the valve guide. The height of the protrusion of the valve sleeve: Engine A5D: Intake valve: 12,8-13,4 mm Exhaust valve: 12,8-13,4 mm Engine A3E: Intake valve: 10,2-10,8 mm Exhaust valve: 10,2-10,8 mm | A warning Guide bushings intake and exhaust valves are different.
