Assessment of the suspension components and the steering gear

See. See also Section Check of a condition and reliability of fastening components chassis, suspension and steering gear in Chapter Current leaving and service.

Suspension

PERFORMANCE ORDER

  1. Press down on the front of the vehicle - if the front shock absorbers are serviceable, if you release the body should return to its original position without rocking. Similarly reassess the rear shock absorbers. Also note the presence of scratches, grinding and other extraneous sounds produced when the rocking body.
  2. Post the car off the ground, and carefully check the shock absorbers and coil springs for deformation, cracks, chips and other mechanical damage. Make sure there are no signs of development of leaks of shock absorbers.
  3. Assess the reliability of a tightening of threaded fasteners wishbone front suspension.
  4. Inspect the levers and rod suspension for signs of mechanical damage.
  5. Check all rubber bushings (levers, stabilizer, reactive rod) and anther ball joints and hinges.

Steering drive

Do not hold the steering wheel with the engine running in extreme positions for more than 15 seconds!

PERFORMANCE ORDER

  1. Post the car off the ground and visually assess the state of linkage steering linkage. Make sure there is no play and secure tightening threaded fasteners. Check the condition of rubber plugs and anther tips of steering drafts.
  1. To pull the steering wheel in various directions, make sure that there is no axial and lateral backlash of the steering column. If necessary, the wear rate of the bearing and pivot the steering shaft. Replace defective components.
  1. Expand the front wheels in the straight-ahead position and gently turning the steering wheel left and right, to vote the value of its free-wheeling. If the result is outside the permitted range (5 ÷ 30 mm), carefully review the status of all nodes articulated steering gear also check for any excessive play increased engagement of the steering mechanism. Replace defective components.
  1. Drive the vehicle on a flat paved areas and expand its front wheels in the straight-ahead position.
  2. With the engine a few times, turn the steering wheel from lock to lock with the purpose of warming up the hydraulic fluid system hydrostrengthening (normal operating temperature of the hydraulic fluid is 50 ÷ 60 ? C).
  1. Leaving the engine running at idle, inset dynamometer to the outer end of the spokes of the steering wheel and measure the resistance force of the last rotation. If the measurement exceeds the limit (33 N), check the hydraulic fluid level in the reservoir of the steering pump (see chap. Current leaving and service), check the lines of a hydraulic path for signs of leaks, make sure of serviceability of functioning of the pump power steering and the steering mechanism, vote is correct belt tension and check the tire inflation pressure. Make the necessary corrections. By "pumping" bleed the hydraulic path GUR (see. Section Removal and installation of components of rear axle assembly), if necessary, make a check of the pressure characteristics of the steering pump (see. Section Removal, check and installation of shock absorbers and coil springs).
