Checking ignition coils

The ignition coils are placed under the service cover on the top side of the power unit under the sleeve of the intake air path of the engine.

1 - Ignition coils
2 - The inlet duct
3 - Service Case

Check voltage

PERFORMANCE ORDER

  1. Make sure the ignition is off.
  2. Remove the service cover and disunite the connector of the ignition coil.
  1. Turn on the ignition and measure the voltage across the red and white wires of the coil connector, - the required value of the order of 12 V.
  1. If the voltage is missing, check the condition of the main circuit breaker, ignition switch and wiring connecting the respective circuit.
  2. Faulty coil must be replaced.

Check resistance

Remember that each coil is organized by two primary and two secondary windings, which must be checked individually.

PERFORMANCE ORDER

  1. Connect an ohmmeter to the positive () terminal of the coil connector, then turn the second wire connecting the meter to the negative (-) terminals of the connector, measure the resistance of the primary windings of the coil assembly - required value is 0.45 ÷ 0.55 ohms at 20 ? C.
  1. Operating in a similar manner, measure the resistance of the secondary windings of the coil, - the required value is 13 ÷ 15 ohms at 20 ? C.
  1. Failure of any of the winding reel assembly must be replaced (see. Section Replacing ignition coils).
