Removing the cylinder head of the engine 111 series

PERFORMANCE ORDER

  1. Illustrative material for removing and installing the cylinder head of the engine 111 is shown in a series of illustrations, which include all the links in the text.
  2. Drain the cooling system (see chap. Current care and maintenance).
  3. Remove coolant expansion tank (see chap. System of cooling, heating and air conditioner).
  4. Otboltite exhaust pipe from the exhaust manifold.
  5. Otboltite from the transmission support bracket exhaust system.
  6. Remove the cover of the thermostat (see chap. System of cooling, heating and air conditioner).
  7. Disconnect the connectors supplied to the cylinder head harness.
  8. Otboltite inlet conduit (19) (see. Section Removal and installation of the inlet pipeline), separate the latter from the cylinder head, and take him aside.
  9. Disconnect the vent line.
  10. On engines with an aluminum intake manifold otboltite bracket (2).
  11. Disconnect the hose of the cooling path (3) on the back of the head.
  12. Remove the front cylinder head cover (see. Section Removal and installation of covers of timing).
  13. Otboltite guide tube (7) of the probe measuring the level of motor oil.
  14. On models with AT otboltite guide tube (8) of the probe measuring the level of ATF.
  15. Provernuv the crankshaft in the normal direction, bring the piston of the first cylinder in position of 20-30 ? after TDC.
  16. Lock camshafts (75 and 78) with the locking rods.
  17. Marker, mark the position of the gas distribution chain on the camshaft sprockets.
  18. Remove the chain tensioner (14) (see. Section Removal and installation of components of timing).
  19. Remove the cylinder head with the chain guide (see. Section Removal and installation of components of timing).
  20. Remove the sprocket (76 and 74) the exhaust and intake camshafts.

Stars bolts must be replaced without fail.

  1. Remove the intake camshaft assembly with regulator (see. Section Removal and installation of components of timing).
  2. Priboltite bracket (16).
  3. Remove the guide pins (11).
  4. Remove the bolts (A) fixed to the cylinder head timing cover (see. Section Removal and installation of covers of timing).
  5. In several steps to loosen, then remove the bolts (12) securing the head.
  6. Check the condition of the bolts (12), in case of need make replacement.
  7. Connect the lifting gear to the bracket (16) and the rear lug of the motor.
  8. Picking up, gently separate the head from the cylinder.
  9. Carefully smooth out interfaced surfaces of a head and the block, completely removing all traces of the old gasket material.
  10. Clean threaded holes for mounting bolts.
  11. Installation is the reverse order of dismantle of components.

PERFORMANCE ORDER

  1. Illustrative material for removing and installing the cylinder head engines of series 112 and 113 is shown in the illustrations, which include all the links in the text.
  2. Disconnect the negative wire from the battery.
  3. Drive the vehicle on a lift.
  4. On models equipped with engine 113.942 (ML 430) remove vozduhootboynik (1).
  5. Drain the cooling system (see chap. Current care and maintenance).
  6. Remove the cover of the power unit.
  7. On all models except the ML 55 AMG and ML 500, remove the cooling fan with viscous coupling, then remove the fan cover.
  8. On the ML 55 AMG and ML 500, remove the assembly of the electric fan cooling system.
  9. Set the screen to protect the radiator / condenser K / V.
  10. Remove the air cleaner (7).
  11. Remove the air hose (6) from the resonator chamber (7).
  12. Relieve the pressure in the fuel system (see chap. Power supply system and exhaust system), and disconnect the fuel line from the gasoline pipe.
  13. Remove the ignition coil (12).
  14. Remove the cylinder head cover (13).
  15. Remove the gauge CMP (15).
  16. Accessory drive belt.
  17. Remove the cooling line path (16) on the left cylinder head.
  18. Remove wheel arch locker protection (9).
  19. Remove the deflector (10) (models with engines of series 113).
  20. Remove the support bracket of the exhaust system (11).
  21. Disconnect the intake pipe exhaust system from exhaust manifolds.
  22. Provernuv the crankshaft in the normal direction, bring the piston of the first cylinder in position of 40 ? after TDC, in which there is no risk of collision with the piston valve when turning the camshaft.
  23. Remove the chain tensioner (17) (see. Section Removal and installation of components of timing).
  24. Remove the oil filter housing (18), complete with liquid heat exchanger (model series 113 engines).
  25. Turn out bolts of asterisks of camshafts (19).
  26. Remove the camshaft cover bridges (28).
  27. Remove the cylinder head bolts to the timing cover (20).
  28. In several stages, release, and then remove the bolts heads (21).
  29. Remove the cylinder head.
  30. Identify the version by inspecting the head gasket.
  31. Examine the condition of the mounting bolts (21).
  32. Carefully smooth out interfaced surfaces of a head and the block, completely removing all traces of the old gasket material.
  33. Clean threaded holes for mounting bolts.
  34. Installation is the reverse order of dismantle of components.

In identifying the mating surfaces on the head and the block cavities installation gasket on the head is made using a sealant.
