Maintenance of the cylinder head and camshaft

To perform the procedures described below require the following special equipment: a tool for compressing the valve springs, micrometer, dial gauge plunger type and measuring flatness (rib steel ruler).

Refitting

Withdrawal

The cylinder head, in principle, can be removed in gathering with the inlet pipeline and a final collector, however, due to the significant weight and size characteristics of such assemblage composers of the given Management recommend to stick to the order set forth below of the procedure.

PERFORMANCE ORDER

  1. Disconnect the negative wire from the battery.
  2. Take care of the protection of paint surrounding the engine compartment body panels.
  3. Drain the cooling system.
  4. Remove the air cleaner.
  5. Remove the valve assembly, the intake manifold and exhaust manifold.
  6. Remove the gas distribution belt.

To prevent deformation of the cylinder head bolts of its fastening Render engine is hot.

  1. Give the rear corner and the front corner of the cylinder head bolts.
  2. Operating in reverse order tightening gradually loosen head bolts.
  3. With the help of an assistant, remove the cylinder head from the engine, being careful not to damage the mating surface.

Do not crank the engine after removal from the cylinder head. Note the position of the guide pin of the camshaft - it should be at the top of its stroke diagrams. Installation of a head to a camshaft rotated incorrectly will damage the valves and pistons.

Setting

Installation is in the reverse order.

PERFORMANCE ORDER

  1. Make sure of absoluteness of cleanliness of interfaced surfaces of a head and cylinder block.
  1. Check the flatness of the head (see. Accompanying illustration). If necessary, it bore or replace.
  1. Likewise, check the flatness of the mating surface of the cylinder. If necessary, remove the engine and take the unit to the groove.
  2. Place the cylinder block head gasket, making sure the proper placement of all its holes.
  3. Establish a head on its place on the block, lightly grease the threads of bolts and washers and screw fasteners.

Washers head bolts must be installed to the chamfered bolt heads.

  1. Freely screw bolts corner.
  1. Tighten the fasteners in order shown in the accompanying illustration.

Corner bolts X, Y and Z are tightened after main tightening fasteners! Wherein:

  1. In the first stage tighten bolts (main) with a force of 29 Nm;
  2. Then tighten them with 78 Nm of torque;
  3. Fully loosen the bolts in the reverse order;
  4. Again tighten them with a force of 29 Nm;
  5. Tighten bolts to 78 Nm ÷ 88, or (preferably) by a protractor another 100 ÷ 105 ?
  1. Tighten angular head bolts with effort 9 ÷ 12 Nm.
  2. Replace the valve assembly and the intake manifold and exhaust manifold.
  3. Put gas distribution belt.
  4. Fill the cooling system.
  5. Start the engine and check for leaks.

Dismantling

Overhaul the cylinder head requires the use of special equipment. Purchase or lease of such equipment are usually uneconomical for repair only one head. In view of the above, it would be appropriate to entrust the overhaul of cylinder heads skilled workshop of dealer branch of the manufacturer of the vehicle or the service station. Some branded shops can be purchased on the exchange through a removable head recovery that can significantly reduce the downtime of the vehicle.

PERFORMANCE ORDER

  1. Remove the cylinder head from the engine.
  2. Remove the distributor.
  3. After blocking with a suitable tool camshaft cogwheel, give bolts of its fastening.

The tool should be introduced into contact with the front portion of the wheel, and in any case not with its teeth!

  1. Remove a cogwheel from a pin of a camshaft.
  1. Give bolts of a persistent plate of a camshaft, then gently, taking care not to damage the bearings in the head, remove the shaft. The camshaft drive and its components are shown in the accompanying illustration.
1 - washers
2 - gland
3 - a sealing ring
4 - Bolts

5 - gear
6 - resistant plate
7 - camshaft
  1. Before removing valves, remove carbon deposits from the combustion chamber walls - this will help prevent damage to the valves and their seats.
  2. Place the head on the side. Use the special tool compress the valve spring.
  3. Remove the valve plate springs two crackers of cutting lock (components of the valve are shown on an accompanying illustration).
1 - crackers
2 - plate springs
3 - stem seals
4 - spring
5 - windings with a short pitch
6 - seat springs
7 - exhaust valve
8 - inlet valve

If you experience difficulties during the extraction of crackers from the plate valve spring sharply tap the edge of the dish hammer handle.

  1. Release the tool and remove the plate and spring.
  2. Needle remove the edges of the grooves for the installation of crackers all visible minor defects in the form of burrs and burrs, then remove the valve from the cylinder head.
  3. By acting in the described manner, remove the remaining valves with their accessories. Fold the ingredients in the order of their installation on the engine.

For orderly storage of valves perfect rack with twelve numbered apertures in which and should stick valve stem in order to install them in the head.

  1. Carefully hooking, remove the valve stem from the valve stem seals. Discard them.

Cleaning and checking the status of the head and its components

PERFORMANCE ORDER

  1. Thoroughly clean the valves, cull defective (with burnout, cracks and deformation of the rods).
  2. Carefully remove accumulated sediment from the receiving and discharge ports of the head, valve stems and guides. Try not to damage interfaced surfaces.
  3. Clean the mating surface of the head, channels the water jacket, and a support slot thermostat setting.
  4. Wash the cylinder head in kerosene, wash water from a hose, and dry thoroughly to prevent the development of corrosion.
  5. Adjust each valve in the corresponding guide. Lift the valve so that the end of his rod was in the 30 mm above the end of the guide sleeve. Fix the dial gauge in such a way that the plunger rested against forming surface of the shank of the valve stem.
  6. Shaking the valve stem in the transverse direction parallel to the plane of the rocker, determine the value of its lateral play. If the result exceeds 0.2 mm, measure the inner diameter of the guide sleeve and the diameter of the rod, compare your results with the requirements of table sizes and adjustments, replace excessively worn components. Repeat the test for all remaining valves.

Removing and installing valve guides require a warm-up to the cylinder head temperature of 150 ? ÷ 160 ? C, except when installing the hub should be properly chamfered, which is why the drafters of the Guidelines recommend entrust the work of the experts of a workshop car service.

  1. In the presence of signs of leaks or destruction of the material due to aging, replace the spherical cap of the water jacket of the cylinder head.
  2. Check the flatness of the mating surfaces of the head and the cylinder. If necessary, make a groove.
  3. Inspect cams and the bearing surface of the camshaft for wear and damage.
  4. Place the camshaft pins in a V-shaped blocks and using a dial gauge rate it beating in the area of the central bearing. If the runout exceeds the limit (see. Table sizes and adjustments in the end of this manual), replace the shaft.
  5. Measure the diameter and height of the neck bearing cam lift camshaft compare the results with regulatory requirements (see. Table sizes and adjustments in the end of this manual). If signs of excessive wear, replace the shaft.
  6. Measure the inner diameter of the bearing of the camshaft in the cylinder head. Compare the result with the diameter of the bearing shaft neck. If the clearance exceeds the limit (see. Table sizes and adjustments in the end of this manual), replace the head.
  7. To measure the endplay set the camshaft and the bearing plate into the cylinder head. Secure dial gauge in front of the front end of the shaft. Push the shaft all the way forward and then completely take him back and read the dial gauge. If the axial play exceeds the limit (see. Table sizes and adjustments in the end of this manual), replace the bearing plate.

Recovery of working surfaces of valves and saddles

This work should be entrusted to qualified service personnel equipped with adequate instruments. Contact your auto service shop.

PERFORMANCE ORDER

  1. Pierce each valve plate to the desired angle (see. Table sizes and adjustments in the end of this manual). If necessary, grind off the plane at the end of the valve stem (but do not remove more than 0.2 mm of the material).
  2. Measure the width of the cylindrical portion (girdle) valve plate. If she has a minimum permissible limit (see. Table sizes and adjustments in the end of this manual), the valve must be replaced.
  3. Check valve stem for signs of bending. In the event of such, replace the valve.
  4. When bore valve seats using a special guide for the cutter. As a result, the processing must be obtained smooth indissoluble working facet. Excessively worn seat must be replaced.
  5. Upon completion of processing of saddles width of their working facets should meet the regulatory requirements that are different for intake and exhaust valves (see. Table sizes and adjustments in the end of this manual).
  6. To check the sophistication of the contact grease a working surface of the valve disc Prussian blue, and then set the valve head and rotate, pressed to the saddle. After separation of the valve plate on a working facet of the saddle should be formed uniform indissoluble ring, coaxial with the axis of the saddle. Check the quality of treatment in the same way all the valves / saddles.

Checking the valve springs

PERFORMANCE ORDER

  1. Measure the free length of the valve springs. Compare your results with the regulatory requirements (see. Table sizes and adjustments in the end of this manual).
  2. Check spring for signs of deformation.
  3. If special diagnostic tool at hand is not available, compare the length of loaded spring to that of a new spring. For this spring Abut ends of each other, paving between the flat plate or the washer, then tighten the assembly in a vice. After information about the vise jaws 13 mm length serviceable spring should not differ from the new length of more than 5%. If necessary, replace the spring.

Assembling the cylinder head

PERFORMANCE ORDER

  1. Installation is the reverse order of removal.
  2. Before assembly, make sure of absoluteness of cleanliness of ports and valve seats - on their surfaces shall not bear any traces of extraneous materials. Lightly oil the valve guides and install the saddle springs.
  3. Put on the valve guides and new seat springs stem seals Track reliability of landing caps.

Used two types of stem seals. On the intake valves are set caps, reinforced with metal inserts and their planting should take advantage of a segment or a replacement head tube of suitable diameter. Caps equipped with exhaust valves metal ring in the base and can be planted on the hub fingers.

  1. When installing the valve to avoid damaging their terminals.
  2. Install the valve springs. Note that the springs exhaust valves of the first, second and third cylinders are curled in a direction opposite to the others. Also remember that all springs should be installed with a short pitch coils (usually dyed) to the cylinder head.
  3. Install the valve spring plate and compress the spring with special tool.
  4. Insert into the groove on the rod crackers cutting lock and release tools. Slightly Tap the end of the rod hammer with soft brisk for the shrinkage of crackers on a plate. Repeat for the remaining valves.
