Troubleshooting front axle

There have been noises generated by the front wheels of the car

Tire noise. Check that the tires by size rated for the vehicle.

Is loose disc on the hub. Check the condition of the rim, the wheel hub, studs and wheel nuts. Tighten fittings or replace the defective components.

Balancing wheel broken or bent disk. Balance the wheel, or replace the disc.

Defective front hub bearings or broken their adjustment. Adjust the preload the bearings or replace them.

Worn or damaged bearing assembly of the knuckle or broken their adjustment. Check, if necessary, replace bearings.

Worn or damaged constant velocity joint (CV joint) of the drive shaft of the front wheel. Check, if necessary, replace the drive shaft.

Poddomkratte the front of the car and establish it on props. Check tightening of fixing screws and freedom of rotation of the wheel, measure the amount of runout. Noise of the front hub bearing appear as rumble during rotation of the wheel separately. During the check the status of wheel bearings transmission must be in position "N", and the opposite wheel - to be blocked.
Noise of SHRUS most noticeable when driving at full lock the steering wheel. To assess the state of the metal can be SHRUS clicks published by the hub portion of the wheel while rotating it back and forth. The transmission must be in the first transmission, transfer case switched to downshift, and the hub with switchable drive - blocked.

We have the noise emitted by the main transfer

Is loose or worn propeller shaft universal joint. Tighten the fasteners or replace the joint.

Fell lubricant level. Check there are no traces of oil leaks, if you see them eliminate the cause. Add oil grades required.

Flange nut is loose drive pinion. Lubricate the sealing nut and tighten with demanded effort.

Worn or damaged components of the final drive. Overhaul of the main transfer.

Pinion shaft is rotated and the front wheel - no

Do not put into engagement or faulty hub with switchable drive. Check the functioning of the hubs with switchable drive, perform the necessary repairs or make a replacement.

Damaged driveshaft or CV joint. Check, replace the shaft assembly.

Cut crown bolts (driven) gear. Remove the final drive assembly and replace the screws.

Damaged gear differential. Overhaul of the main transfer.

Remove the drive shafts and check their condition. If necessary, remove assemblage of the main transfer and execute its overhaul. Ensure thorough removal of the axle housing foreign particles and metal shavings.

There is a loss of lubricating fluid

Faulty oil seal drive pinion. Check (see. Accompanying illustration). Replace the oil seal, check the condition of the contact surface of the flange.

Faulty drive shaft seal. Remove the drive shaft and replace oil seal.

There is leakage through the gasket crankcase main gear. Remove the final drive assembly and replace the gasket.

Leakage occurs through pores or cracks in the housing of the main transfer. Perform the necessary repairs or replace the crankcase.

Before you clean the front axle assembly to check it for signs of oil leaks, check the patency of the crankcase ventilation hose (see. Accompanying illustration). If the leak does not occur at the cold bridge, take a trip by car, warming the bridge to normal operating temperature, and then inspect the housing for signs of leakage through tiny pores and cracks.
