Replacement of the fuel pump / gauge of the fuel tank

   Fuel pump with the tank sensor located in the tank and is denoted by Volkswagen, based on the structure, usually as a fuel supply system. The sensor consists of a float and a potentiometer. By lowering the fuel level sensor float falls and associated float potentiometer increases the electrical resistance of the sensor. As a result, the voltage drops on the index of fuel, which is located on the instrument panel, - the arrow moves in the direction to the designation of "Empty".
   A warning The fuel pump and a fuel tank sensor best dismantle outdoors. Fuel vapors are poisonous and flammable, so the necessary precautions are a prerequisite for the job. |

   When removing the fuel pump, proceed as follows:    - Disconnect the battery;
   Warnings When disconnecting the battery information is erased from the memory of the electronic devices, so check if you have a car code. The battery should be disconnected only when the ignition is switched off. |

   - Remove the cover at the bottom of the trunk;    - Disconnect the sensor connector of the tank and the fuel pump.  To do this, lift slightly with a small screwdriver on the sides of retaining lugs;    - After loosening the hose clip to dismantle the supply and return fuel hoses.  The connections are shown in Fig.  121, the details of the fuel assembly - Fig.  122.  Close apertures of hoses;

   - Loosen with a special key union nut 3217. If such a key is not present, you can use a wooden core, putting it to the faces of the nut and tapping the rod with a hammer; - Remove the flange and gasket out of the mouth of a tank; - A fuel knot turning counterclockwise, take it out of the bayonet connector and pull. When installing the fuel pump, proceed as follows: - When installing a used fuel pump should be drained from it fuels; - Set the pump to the fuel tank. Moisten the O-ring before installing the engine oil. When installing ensure that the fuel level sensor is not deformed. With correct assembly the float sensor is directed toward the fuel; - Open the right flange and secure it with a bayonet. The arrow on the flange points toward the arrow mark 4 (see. Fig. 121) in the tank; - Screw and tighten the coupling nut; - Connect the supply and return fuel hoses. The connections are indicated by arrows. Furthermore, to establish a return fuel hose blue. Tighten the clamps on the hoses; - Install plug and reattach the cover; - Reconnect the battery and set the clock. Enter access code radio.
