Repair the generator
To repair the generator alone is difficult and is not advisable, as to determine its serviceability and compliance with its nominal characteristics require special stand. Therefore repairing generator is better to entrust to those skilled in the workshop of the company ?Volkswagen?, where you can also replace the generator of the exchange fund. Such a generator is up to 50% cheaper than a new. However, before you change the generator, you can perform the following verification work. Checking the voltage regulator on the car To check the voltage regulator is necessary to have a DC voltmeter with a scale up to 15-30 V, accuracy class better than 1.0. Check voltage regulator mounted on the car, spend in the following order: - Start the engine and let it run for about 15 minutes at medium speed; - Using a voltmeter, measure the voltage between "30" (thick red cable terminal on the generator) and the "weight" of the generator; - The voltage must be between 13,3-14,6 V. In the event that there is a systematic undercharging or overcharging batteries and regulated voltage does not fit in the specified range, the voltage regulator must be replaced. In addition, you can check the status of the carbon brushes. Checking the carbon brushes Although this work can be carried out during a generator, it is still recommended to remove the generator from the car. Check the state of the carbon brushes spend in the following order:

Details of the generator and its mounting on the 2.0-liter engine: 1 - screws M8 25 Nm; 2 - a tension roller; 3 - an arm; 4 - natyazhitelnoe device; 5 - a nut M8, 30 Nm; 6 - Voltage Regulator; 7 - bolts voltage regulator, M4; 8 - housing; 9 - mounting bolts; 10 - the generator; 11 - V-ribbed belt

- Unscrew the screws 9 (see. Fig. 334) securing the casing and remove the cover; - Unscrew the two screws securing the voltage regulator 7 6;

- Carefully remove the body of the generator voltage regulator assembly with the brush holder and brushes of the generator (Fig. 336); - Measure the length protruding from the brush holder carbon brushes. If their height is less than 5 mm, the brush should be replaced. The new carbon brush has a length of 13 mm, thus, it is possible to know how much the worn carbon brushes. Replacing old carbon brushes with new means replacing the entire voltage regulator assembly with the brushes and brush holder, as the carbon brushes are soldered to the brush holder. However, if you wish, you can contact the service station Bosch for the replacement of only the carbon brushes. As installed in automobile parts Bosch, this operation must not cause any problems. A trip with a defective generator When traveling it was discovered that the generator is no longer charges AB (constant discharge warning light on the instrument panel AB), this means that the generator does not produce voltage, or defective discharge lamp control circuit, or broken electronic voltmeter. In the daytime it is possible to go back in for several hours (assuming that the SB in good condition). In this situation, the following guidelines: - If possible turn off the engine, since its re-launch expended a lot of energy; - If you still need to turn off the engine, put the car down the slope to be able to start the vehicle, pushing the car down the slope; - Turn off the heated rear window, radio and stove; - If the rain is not strong, put the wipers on intermittent switching mode; - If you have to go at night, you turn on only dipped.
