Corners of installation of forward wheels - the general information

Under the front axle is understood adjustment of their angular position with respect to the components and suspension to the road surface. Misalignment of the front wheels affects not only the efficiency of driving, but also on the rate of tire wear. Only one of the parameters of the angles of the front wheels to be adjusted on the cars of this brand are the angle of inclination of the longitudinal axis of rotation (coasting) and the convergence of the front wheels.

Adjustment of corners of installation of forward wheels requires high precision, so it is wise to conduct a qualified specialist with the required equipment. The compilers of this manual have attempted to present in this section the basic idea of adjusting the angles of the front wheels, to facilitate understanding of the owners of vehicles in order to facilitate the process of negotiations with representatives of the garage.

It called convergence slight reduction of the front wheels to the axle of the car ahead of his move. The aim of regulation is to ensure the convergence of parallel to the front wheels during cornering. In vehicles with zero convergence distance between the front edges of the wheels equal to that between the rear of their edges. Typically, the value of convergence is about 2.5 mm. Adjusting the convergence is performed by changing the tip of the connecting rod end. Violation of convergence is the cause of premature tire wear due to slipping wheels turning.

The convergence of the front wheels always set positive.

Coasting called caster wheel relative to the vertical longitudinal plane of the vehicle. When tilting the axis of the stick back is positive when bending forward - negative. Adjusting the overrun can install or remove shims at the back of the lower suspension arms.

Coasting (inclination of the upper end of the axis of rotation of the vertical wheel forward) affects the characteristics of self-return to the original steering position; adjustable overrun is not one of procedures of routine maintenance of the car, but its accuracy should be checked every time a change is made housing front axle or the front suspension arms.

The collapse of the (inclination of the plane of the front wheel to the vertical when viewed from the vehicle in front) is set in the assembly of the car with a zero angle and is not adjustable. If the camber angle deviates from the set value, the defective components, which cause disturbances to be replaced.

In no case do not attempt to make adjustment of the angle of camber by heating or bending of the bridge or other suspension components.
