Check of serviceability of functioning of charge

If the system fails the charge should not automatically assume that it is the cause of the failure of the generator. First check the following:

  • Make sure to clean and secure mounting on the terminals battery terminals it leads.
  • Check the specific gravity of the electrolyte of the battery. If it is insufficient, charge the battery (not applicable to the batteries do not require maintenance type).
  • Check the condition of the wiring and the terminals of the generator.
  • Check the condition and tension of the belt (Head of Adjustment and routine maintenance). If necessary, replace it.
  • Check the strength of the tightening of bolts of fastening of the generator
  • Start the engine and check the generator to emit them unusual sounds (squealing or creaking point to the failure of the bearing).

PERFORMANCE ORDER

  1. Using a voltmeter, check the voltage of the battery when the engine is off. It should be about 12 V.
  1. To measure the voltage of the battery, connect a voltmeter to the battery terminals - to measure the charge voltage, start the engine.
  1. Start the engine and repeat the test. Now, the voltage should rise to a value of 14 - 15 V.
  2. If the measured voltage is below or above specified, make check of serviceability of the voltage regulator in dealer branch or service center workshop. The voltage regulator on these models is part of the Control Module (PCM) and is not subject to removal and adjustment.
  3. In view of the need to apply for diagnostics and servicing of a special tool, the drafters of the Guidelines recommend that in case of its failure to drive away the car for inspection and repair in dealer branch or service center workshop. The mechanic-fan should be limited to the implementation of quality assurance and reliability of fastening of contact plugs wiring state of the generator and replace it if necessary.
  4. Some models are equipped with mounted in the dashboard ammeter that detects the condition stays battery (charging or discharging, that is, whether the current in or out of the battery). When the electrical system and running the engine at idle needle can detect a low battery condition. If the engine turns of fast idling or when the vehicle ammeter should show the battery charging (arrow located on the charging side of the scale of the indicator if the battery is charged or moving towards charging side of the scale, if the battery was "run down").
  5. The dashboard also includes some models voltmeter shows battery voltage when the ignition key to the ON position before starting the engine and the generator output voltage with the engine running.
  6. Charge indicator lamp on the instrument panel should light up when rotated to the ON key and the engine is not running, and immediately extinguished after its launch.
  7. If the meter does not fix the battery charging when the warning lamp or should the generator (if any) is included in the system of charging a fault. Before proceeding to the verification of the state of the brushes or the replacement of the generator, check the battery status, the terminals wiring and a tension drive a generator belt.
