Starting system



Starters installed on engines of 4.0 l have a lightweight design with a planetary gear drive. These starter assembly / magnetic switch, manufactured by Mitsubishi, provide high speed rotation of the engine when it starts.

The unit is equipped with a removable traction relay, which can be purchased individually (ask in shops of automobile accessories). On engines of 5.2 liters mounted starter company Nippondenso, equipped with a gearbox, where the desired effect using the output gears of different diameters This starter is a monolithic block. Before starting to dismantle the starter on your vehicle consult the dealership office.

The sole purpose of the launch is to crank the engine with sufficient speed to run it.

Starting system consists of a battery, a starter, the traction relay and connecting wires. The traction relay is mounted directly to the starter.

Assembling the starter with the traction relay is set at the top of the engine, close to the dome of the transmission.

When you turn the ignition key to START going energizing the traction relay, which is supplying battery power to the starter. The starter starts to rotate, scroll engine.

When working with the components of the system should be run to remember the following points:

  • Excessive cranking the starter can cause it to overheat, with serious injuries. Do not operate the starter continuously for more than 15 seconds. Pause between the two duty cycle should be at least 2 minutes.
  • The starter is connected directly to the battery and improper handling, overload and short circuit can cause arcing, which is fraught with fire.

Before servicing any of the components of the system start-up be sure to disconnect the negative cable from the battery.

If the radio in your car is equipped by a security code before to disconnect the battery negative cable, make sure that you know this code.
