Repair and replacement of fuel lines

See. The warning at the beginning of Section Procedure dumping fuel pressure.

Before all work depressurise the system power supply (Section Procedure dumping fuel pressure).

Supply line and fuel return and evaporator lines pass between the fuel tank and the engine compartment of the vehicle. Lines are attached to the bottom of the car with clamps and screw assemblies, and from time to time must be checked for signs of leaks, kinks and strains.

If there are clear signs of contamination of food or fuel filter, lines must be disconnected and purged. Check strainer fuel gauge sensor unit for signs of aging, and material damage.

Steel Pipes

If you need to replace the fuel lines or lines systems reduce emissions, use only replacement section marked Chrysler (or equivalent in design and material).

In no case do not try to replace steel tubes copper or aluminum. These materials do not provide sufficient strength to withstand vibrational loads encountered in the course of normal operation of the vehicle.

Since the fuel lines used in fuel injection systems are constantly under pressure, their design has to meet distinct associated with this factor conditions.

Some of the lines are equipped with screw-type couplings equipped with sealing rings. Every time weakening compression fittings in the repair and maintenance and repair of the components, observe the following:

  • To loosen and tighten the compression fittings, use a set of two wrenches.
  • Check all O-rings for cuts, cracks and signs of aging of the material. In the case of defects change the ring.
  • If you need to replace the fuel lines, try to use only original replaceable component or components designed to meet the requirements of the standard brand.

Flexible hoses

As replacement parts, use only original hoses or equivalent in design and type of material. Failure to do so fraught with hoses damaged by the impact of increased pressure in the system.

Do not route the hoses closer than 100 mm from the components of the exhaust system and closer to 250 mm from the catalytic converter. Metal lines and hoses must not come into contact with the elements of the frame of the car. The minimum clearance, ensuring fulfillment of this requirement is 6.5 mm.

Refitting

PERFORMANCE ORDER

  1. Relieve the pressure in the fuel system.
  2. Remove all hardware that secures the line on the back of the car.
  3. There are various methods of compression fittings uncoupling of fuel lines (depending on their design). By carrying out this disconnection, carefully remove the line with elements of the chassis.

Service compression fittings quick connector, equipped with a plastic ring is not made on an individual basis. Do not attempt to repair the line in the event of a failure of this type of connection - replace it in the assembly.

  1. For undocking compression fittings equipped with plastic ring Squeeze tube into the connection and tighten the plastic ring holder.
  1. For undocking reed-type compression fittings press the locking tabs and pull the line to the last.
  1. Install in reverse order. Do not forget to replace the O-ring in the screw-type connections (if used).

Repairs

In case of damage to the fuel line (metal or flexible) should be replaced defective section proprietary replaceable element. Installation of replacement components of another type is fraught with their failure as a result of exposure to elevated pressure in the system.
