Assessment of components of the steering gear

Cardan (arrow) of the steering shaft can have significant axial and radial backlash

2 - Swivel arm / fry

The amount of free running (a) of the steering wheel should not go beyond the permitted range

Assess the anthers of rubber (3) of the hinge assemblies steering gear

Assessment of the ball stud tie rod

4 - ball pin
5 - Adaptations to push anther

PERFORMANCE ORDER

  1. Poddomkratte car and establish it on props.
  2. Having hooked a screw-driver, manually make sure that there is no axial backlash steering shaft (arrow). Ask the assistant rotating the steering wheel from side to side, check for the presence of joint radial play, which also should not take place.
  3. Assess the tips of steering drafts (1) in the pivot arm / steering pitman arm (2).
  4. Evaluate the amount of movement (a) of the steering wheel.
  5. Carefully wiping rate the condition of rubber anther (3) articulations of components of a steering drive. In case of cracks, traces of leaks and other defects, the corresponding joints have to be replaced in the assembly - simply replacing the boot is permitted only with absolute certainty that the inside of the hinge could be dirty.
  6. Assessment of the ball pins (4) steering tips can be made by squeezing the anthers with a special tool (5).
