Removal and installation of the steering mechanism

Petrol models

Corresponding illustrative material is presented in the illustration scheme of the steering gear and the illustration below, which include all the links in the text.

Details of the installation of the steering mechanism on petrol models

6 - pitman arm
8 - Steering Gear
15 - Hollow bolt compression fittings

16 - bolt steering shaft
17 - bolts steering assembly

PERFORMANCE ORDER

  1. Using a suitable puller press out the transverse rod (9) from the pitman arm (7).
  2. On models equipped with engines of series 113 Remove the left lens unit (see chap. Onboard electric equipment) and the steering pump (see. Section Removal and installation of the steering pump).
  3. Remove the heat sink (see chap. System of cooling, heating, ventilation and air conditioning).
  4. Remove the line (14), power steering fluid cooling (see. Section Removal and installation of power steering fluid cooling line).
  5. Remove the hollow bolts (15) and remove the compression fittings from the steering hydraulic assembly line - drain the hydraulic fluid in a prepared container.
  6. Remove the bolt (16) and remove the lower steering shaft from the input shaft of the steering mechanism.
  7. Remove the mounting bolts (17) and remove the steering assembly.
  8. Installation is in the reverse order. Do not forget to check the fluid levels and, if necessary, make appropriate adjustments.
  9. Finally, clean the processor memory on-board self-diagnostic system (see chap. Systems of an electric motor), and adjust the angles of the front wheels (see. Part of the suspension geometry).

Diesel models

PERFORMANCE ORDER

  1. Remove the trim panel of the cylinder head cover.
  2. Remove viscous fan clutch cooling system (see chap. System of cooling, heating, ventilation and air conditioning).
  3. Remove the radiator cooling system (see chap. System of cooling, heating, ventilation and air conditioning).
  4. Remove the left (15) and right (16) of the intake duct sleeve.
  5. Remove the accessory drive belt (see chap. Engine).
  6. Remove the pulley (18) drives the steering pump (11) (see. Section Removal and installation of the steering pump).
  7. Siphon the power steering fluid from the reservoir.
  8. Remove the compressor K / V (19) and, without disconnecting the line refrigerator, take him aside.
  9. Remove the left front wheel.
  10. Remove the left lens unit (see chap. Onboard electric equipment).
  11. Using a suitable puller press out the transverse rod (9) from the pitman arm (7).
  12. Follow the procedures described in paragraphs 5 to 7 for the gasoline engine, remove the steering gear assembly (8).
  13. Installation is in the reverse order. Finally, do not forget to make adjustment of the angles of the front wheels (see. Part of the suspension geometry).
