Checking the system of preliminary heating of the diesel engine

Location of the controls of the diesel engine in the engine compartment of a vehicle with a diesel TDI engine

1 - valve for exhaust gas recirculation;
2 - switching valve intake manifold;
3 - a fuel injector with needle movement sensor;
4 - control unit. Diesel engine with direct injection. Height sensor is integrated in the control unit;
5 - control valve for exhaust gas recirculation;
6 - solenoid valve. To limit the boost pressure;
7 - the air flow meter;
8 - coolant temperature sensor;
9 - engine speed sensor;
10 - the electrical connector for a sensor of the needle;
11 - electric socket for engine speed sensor;
12 - electrical connector high pressure fuel pump (pump). For the fuel temperature sensor, volume controller and sensor control movement of the needle;
13 - the beginning of the injection valve;
14 - Turn off the fuel valve;
15 - post measuring the volume of the fuel pump. With the fuel temperature sensor and sensor control volume control movement of the needle;
16 - the gauge of absolute pressure in the intake manifold temperature sensor

The following items are not shown in the figure:

- And - the switch of the brake pedal;
- V - brake light switch;
- C - accelerator pedal position sensor;
- D - clutch switch.

Test conditions

Power to the vehicle must be not less than 11.5 V.

The engine control unit must be in good condition.

The fuses in the voltage supply to the glow plugs are undamaged.

Check

PERFORMANCE ORDER
1. Turn off the ignition.
2. Disconnect the electrical connector from the coolant temperature sensor (A - coolant temperature sensor, 1, 3 - contact electrical connector).
3. In this state, the engine management believes that the engine is cold and when the ignition will be preheating of the diesel engine.
4. Disconnect the electrical connector from the glow plug.
5. Connect a voltmeter between one of the glow plugs, and weight of the car.
6. Turn on the ignition. This voltmeter should show that within 20 seconds a voltage is applied to the spark plugs.
7. Otherwise, check the electrical power supply circuit glow, locate and repair.
