Replacing the brake drum and rear brake pads on the brake drum

Rear brake drum has an automatic adjustment of a backlash brake pads. Thus Spreader strap automatically changes its length and thereby providing a constant clearance between the brake drum and the brake shoes. To do this, between the front pad and expander strap wedge is placed with a spring, which is a continuation expander strap. The required clearance is established after a single press on the brake pedal. If, due to increased wear of course pad, the wedge under the influence of spring and expander strap falls down. This changes the length of the expander strap and automatically maintained a gap of brake pads.

A WARNING
Be sure to carry out the replacement of all blocks on the same axis, even if the boundaries of their deterioration has reached only one shoe.

Removal and disassembly of the rear brake sequence is as follows:
check the thickness of the rear brake linings drum brake. This test can be performed without removing the brake drums;
Remove the rubber cap mounted over the entrance of a cable of a manual brake on a brake board. With the help of a portable lamp, check the thickness of the brake linings;
hang out and fix on support struts rear of the vehicle;
Remove the rear wheel and release the parking brake;
screwdriver, remove the cover from the central part of the brake drum;
Remove the locking pin and remove the locking ring.
Unscrew the nut and remove thrust washer;
Remove the external bearing;
rotate the brake drum so that holes for wheel bolts located at 45 ? from the vertical plane. By inserting a screwdriver into the top hole for the front wheel bolts, move up the wedge and release the brake pads;
Remove the brake drum. If necessary, use a universal stripper;
Remove the cuff and the inner bearing, unless he acted with the drum;

A WARNING
To avoid the piston of the working brake cylinder do not press the brake pedal when removing the brake drum.

Clean the inside of the brake drum, check the condition of the inner surface thereof for wear and damage. If necessary, replace the drum;
note the relative position of the brake pads and springs for the subsequent correct installation;
pushing the pliers on the spring cups, turn them through 90 ? and remove them together with the springs. When you turn the cups hold the pin on the back of a brake board;
Remove the brake pads from the bottom of the support. Remove the brake pads from the working brake cylinder and disconnect the cable from the hand brake pads. To prevent the loss of the pistons of the working brake cylinder, secure them with wire;
Remove the lower return spring brake pads;
Remove the upper return spring and the spring tension of the wedge;
Disconnect the pressure spring expander strap and remove the expander bar with a wedge;
clean the brake drum, brake pads and brake shield.
measure the thickness of the brake linings.

A WARNING
Be sure to make replacement of all pads on one axis of the car even if deterioration borders were reached one block. If Pads will be repeatedly established, before removal they are necessary for marking.

The assembly and installation of the back brake mechanism spend in the following order:
Apply a small amount of grease on the contact surfaces of the parking brake lever and expander strap;

Set front brake pads on the expander bar
Fig. 12.11. Set front brake pads on the expander bar

hold the bar in the grip of the expander, set the spring tension on expander strap and front brake pads and put the shoe on the expander bar (Fig. 12.11);
Install a wedge between the brake pads and brake shield, with the nose of the wedge should be directed to the board;
insert the brake pad with the parking brake lever in the Expanding the bar and set the top returnable spring;
remove the wire that holds the pistons from falling out of the working brake cylinder;
Connect the parking brake cable from the parking brake lever;
Install the upper part of the brake pads into the slots on the piston of the working brake cylinder;
Install the lower return spring on the brake pads, and then install the lower part of the pad on the support pads;
set the spring tension of the wedge;
install the retaining pins, compression springs and cups. Push the cup holding the rear side of the brake shield pins and rotate the cup 90 ?, to clear its fixing;
move the wedges up to create maximum clearance of brake pads;
insert the inner bearing with grease applied to it in the brake drum and set the cuff;
Install the brake drum;
Apply grease to the outer bearing and place it on a pin;
Install the thrust washer and screw nut;
Install locking ring and a new locking pin;
Attach the cover to the central part of the brake drum;
Establish a wheel and lower the car;
Click once on the brake pedal to set the desired gap of brake pads;
similarly replace the brake drum and rear brake pads on the second wheel.
