Features of driving in off-road conditions

Car Kia Sportage is designed for use in a wide range of driving conditions, including on the road. However, you should not use it to move through the deep water obstacles at excessively dirty and viscous roads, as well as extremely steep climbs and descents. When driving in hilly terrain, try not to move parallel to the slope. Remember that the vehicle can roll over at the sudden change in the angle of the slope or the coating.

Driving on the road should be conducted in all-wheel drive mode (see. Section Using a transfer box), try not to damage the car on rocks, roots and other obstacles protruding. How can you hold the steering wheel firmly and do not forget to wear a seat belt.

Crossing water obstacles must be done at speeds of no more than 8 km / h in 4L mode, the transfer case. Remember that moisture in the ignition system components associated with the risk of spontaneous motor stop. Try to avoid situations when the water rises above the lower edge of the wheel hubs.

When driving on snow or ice using special tires or snow chains (unless prohibited by local law). On all-wheel drive set the radial tires of the same size. Remember that tires for movement on snow do not give extra grip with the normal way.

Metal chains must conform to the class S of SAE. When installing chains follow their processing by a strength, trying to adhere strictly to the instructions of the manufacturer. If during movement the chain in contact with the elements of a body or suspension, try again to tighten the chain if it does not help, try to properly change the speed limit. Remember that the maximum speed of the vehicle equipped with snow chains must not exceed 50 km / h, or the value set by the manufacturer of chains (which is smaller).

With frequent off-road routine maintenance intervals should be reduced (see chap. Current care and maintenance).

In the carriage of goods by road, place heavier items as close to the front of the car. Keep track reliability of fixing luggage. By placing luggage on the roof rack, do not exceed the maximum permissible roof load (45 kg), remember that the laying of heavy objects on the roof causes the displacement of the center of gravity and increases the risk of rollover when driving on uneven terrain.

Prolonged driving in four-wheel drive mode, there is the habit of turning at higher speeds than when driving under normal conditions - do not forget about the need to change driving behavior after the exit of the terrain.
