Removal and installation / check of the sensor in the fuel tank

The level sensor is screwed into the top of the fuel tank. By lowering the level of fuel in the float sensor is lowered. Thus due to sliding contact on the float increases the resistance of the sensor. Because of this, the voltage drops on the index, and the arrow falls in the "empty". If the float continues to go down on some models in a certain position signal contact is closed and the instrument panel warning light reserve stock of fuel. Fuel level sensor should be checked, if the fuel gauge on the instrument panel shows too high, too low or do not show the fuel level.

Four-wheel drive models have two separate fuel level sensor. The fuel level sensor of the fuel pump is located in the left half of the tank, depending on the direction of movement, the sensor of the auxiliary pump is in the right half of the fuel tank, and looking in the direction of forward movement. If you encounter problems, check both sensors.

Test condition: All electrical wiring should be checked for leakage current in accordance with the wiring diagram, see chapter Electrical system.

When removing the sensor can perform a certain amount of fuel. Fuel vapors are poisonous, so you should ensure good ventilation. Avoid getting fuel on the skin. Work in fuel-proof gloves. Do not work near open flames! Keep a fire extinguisher at the ready!

PERFORMANCE ORDER

  1. Disconnect earth cable from the battery.

This data is erased from the memory of malfunctions of the engine or a protective code of a radio receiver. Before disconnecting the battery should read instructions in Section Removal and installation of the battery.

  1. Remove the rear seat, see. Chapter Wheels and tires, a body, car coloring, care of the car.
  1. Unscrew the lid and turn off the fuel pump connector.
  1. Loosen hose clips and disconnect fuel hoses. To facilitate the installation mark hoses with adhesive tape.
  2. Loosen the bolts fuel level sensor.
  3. Pull sensor up to tilt to one side and remove. At the same time put a rag and collect the escaping fuel.

Check

PERFORMANCE ORDER

  1. Hold the sensor mounting position ohmmeter to measure the resistance in those provisions of the float. Models up to 9/89 MY .: Connect an ohmmeter to terminals a and b of the plug.
  1. The position corresponds to the degree of filling the gas tank. "0" corresponds to an empty tank, "1/2" corresponds to the half-filled tank, the position of "1" corresponds to a full tank.
