Checking the wheel bearing play

The front wheel mounted tapered roller bearings, and in the rear hub - double row ball. They have a long-term lubrication and are usually designed more than 100 000 km. Damaged bearings defined by a characteristic noise during rotation of the wheel, which becomes stronger in the corners. It is often difficult to determine the sound, a spindle bearing has failed. Therefore, as far as possible replace the two.

SEQUENCE OF WORK
1. Take turns standing on the ground behind the wheel at the top and try to shake them in a cross-car direction.
2. When serviceable bearings should be virtually no backlash.
3. If the play is present, ask the assistant to press the brake and rock the wheel again. If the play has disappeared, his reason - the wheel bearing. If you save - the suspension is necessary to check the wheels.
4. Faulty rear wheel bearings must be replaced.
