Replacement of a chain camshaft drive

The chain can be replaced from above the engine. However, when replacing the chain is recommended to remove timing cover, check the status of dampers, shoe and the chain tensioner and sprockets.

Removing chain

Tags install on camshaft timing. The arrow shows the alignment mark with the plane of the cylinder head

PERFORMANCE ORDER

  1. Place the bonnet in the vertical position.
  2. Drain the oil from the engine.
  3. Drain the coolant.
  4. Disconnect "weight" from the storage battery.
  5. Remove the air filter.
  6. Remove the radiator.
  7. Remove the fan.
  8. Depending on the model year of the car, loosen and remove the alternator drive belt or multi-ribbed accessory drive belt.
  9. Remove the water pump.
  10. Remove the cover of the camshaft drive auxiliary units (air conditioning compressor, power steering pump, alternator) and hang them in the engine compartment, being careful not to disconnect the hoses.
  11. Remove the TDC sensor.
  12. Remove the mudguard of the engine.
  13. Unscrew the stabilizer bar to the body.
  14. Depending on the configuration, remove the front buffer.
  15. Remove the bracket front exhaust pipe to the gearbox and disconnect the pipe and the exhaust manifold.
  16. Remove the bolts from transmission mount to the crossbar.
  17. Remove the bolts from the engine crankcase.
  18. Remove the bracket bolts of the engine to the crossbar.
  19. Zachalte engine with a chain hoist and lift it up to remove the sump.
  20. Remove the bracket and maslozabornoy oil receiver pipe.
  21. Remove the cylinder head cover.
  22. Remove the four screws on the cover drive of a camshaft to the cylinder head.
  23. Remove the gauge-distributor.
  24. Drown the dowel pins into the cylinder block.
  25. Remove the cover bolts to the engine block, lower cover to disconnect the cylinder head gasket (take care not to damage the gasket) and remove it.
  26. Rotate the crankshaft before the piston of 1st cylinder in TDC, which corresponds to the phase of combustion (the label on the front bearing of the camshaft).
  27. Remove the pusher chain tensioner.
  28. Remove the dampers, shoe, and chain tensioner.
  29. Remove one of the chain links by cutting abrasive wheel to its axis.
  30. Remove the chain from the Stars.
  31. Check the status of stars, pacifier, chain tensioner.

Installing the chain

Installing the chain guide

Setting offset dowels on the camshaft sprocket to compensate for the extraction circuit.

Location dowel pins drive the camshaft cover the cylinder block

Removing the camshaft drive sprocket

When installing the crankshaft pulley send convex part three Belleville washers to a pulley

PERFORMANCE ORDER

  1. Check the position of the piston of 1st cylinder at top dead center and the position of the camshaft.
  2. Put on the new chain sprocket, sending lock washers quickly connecting link in the side of the cover drive of a camshaft.
  3. Install dampers chain shoe and push the piston for chain tensioner.

A slight shift of the camshaft relative to the crankshaft can be suppressed by setting the shifted key to the camshaft drive sprocket.

  4. Check the condition of the oil pump and replace the seals.
  5. Cut the paper cover gasket camshaft drive at the break.
  6. Lubricate the gasket with special glue and put it in place.
  7. Remove the dowel pins from the cylinder.
  8. Replace the cover of the camshaft drive, screw bolts, paying attention to their length and without damaging the cylinder head gasket.
  9. Gradually tighten the cover bolts.
  10. Install crankshaft oil seal clip (with replacement of the gland and replace the clip).
  11. Install the crankshaft pulley and tighten the set moment.
  12. Fasten the bracket and maslozabornoy oil receiver pipe on the crankshaft bearing.
  13. Put a new gasket crankcase.
  14. Install the crankcase.
  15. Install engine support, tighten the screws mount fixing the engine and gearbox.
  16. Connect the exhaust front pipe to the exhaust manifold, front exhaust pipe fix the bracket on the gearbox.
  17. Set the buffer.
  18. Install the stabilizer bar.
  19. Install the engine shield.
  20. Set the TDC sensor.
  21. Install air conditioning compressor, power steering pump and alternator.
  22. Install the water pump with a new gasket.
  23. Depending on the model year of the car, set the alternator drive belt or the accessory drive belt and adjust its tension.
  24. Install the fan and heat sink.
  25. Attach the hose and fill with coolant.
  26. Remove air from the cooling system.
  27. Rotate the crankshaft two revolutions to bring the piston of 1st cylinder in TDC.
  28. Make sure that the mark on the camshaft is located opposite the plane of the cylinder head.
  29. Install the cylinder head cover and fill with oil.
  30. Place the sensor-distributor.
  31. Check the engine idling, the installation of the moment of ignition and make sure there is no leakage of oil and coolant.
