Service crankshaft and main bearings

To perform the procedures described below and will need a micrometer dial gauge plunger type.

Withdrawal

PERFORMANCE ORDER

  1. Remove the engine from the car, then remove with a cylinder head, oil pan, oil pump maslozabornik, timing belt cover, gas distribution and drive chain and flywheel / drive plate.
  2. Give fixing bolts and gently prying, remove the holder crankshaft rear oil seal with the cylinder and the shaft journal.
  3. Make available on rods and covers of the bottom heads of identification labels (if necessary apply them yourself).
  4. Give fixing nuts and remove the cover bottom heads of rods, putting them in order of placement on the engine. Slightly lift the rods, removing them from the necks of the lower head of the shaft, but not pushing the pistons of the cylinders.
  5. Introducing the blade of the probe between the cheek and the sixth crank crankshaft bearings, check the crankshaft endplay vala.Tolknite shaft all the way to the front edge of the central main bearing, and then to determine the axial clearance to pull the shaft all the way forward.

Alternatively, the axial play of the shaft can be determined by a digital type meter plunger mounted opposite end of the shaft journal (see. Accompanying illustration).

  1. If axial play exceeds the limit (see. Table sizes and adjustments in the end of this manual), replace the central main bearing assembly.
  2. With the measuring set Plastigage check main bearing clearance of the crankshaft:
    1. Remove the cover of the first bearing and thoroughly clean the neck of the shaft and bearing clean lint-free cloth.
    2. Place the calibrated plastic wire segment of the measuring set (equal in length to the width of the bearing) along the shaft journal.
    3. Install the bearing cap and tighten bolts of its fastening with demanded effort.

Do not rotate the shaft when laid on its neck measuring wire.

    1. Give bolts and carefully remove the cap with the lower bearing.
    2. On a scale printed on the box set Plastigage, measure the width of the flattened plastic thread, thereby determining the amount of clearance in the bearing.
    3. The widest portion of the flattened wire corresponds to the minimum gap, and vice versa.
    4. Similarly check the remaining gaps in the bearings.
  1. Carefully remove the crankshaft from the crankcase of the engine, taking care not to fall out or are damaged the upper main bearing shells (if they will be used again).
  2. If inserts to be replaced, remove the oldest of their beds in the unit.
  3. Install the new holder of the crankshaft rear oil seal.

Checking the Status

PERFORMANCE ORDER

  1. Check indigenous and crank pins for wear, taper and roundness. If you exceed the permissible degree of wear values (see. Table sizes and adjustments in the end of this manual), the corresponding (indigenous or connecting rod) cervical be machined to the nearest repair of the standard sizes, choose the appropriate size (with belittling) inserts. Remember that even in case of wear or defect of only one of the necks of all cervical groove to be included (indigenous or connecting rod, respectively).
  2. If the degree of deterioration is such that groove necks not remedy the situation, the crankshaft must be replaced.
  3. Check the thrust surface of the central main bearing on the presence of cavities and traces of operation. If necessary, replace the bearing shells, which should result in the end play of the crankshaft in accordance with regulatory requirements (see. Table sizes and adjustments in the end of this manual).
  4. Even if the main bearing clearance satisfactory check their inserts for scratches, scuffing, peeling, caverns and traces of development. If necessary, replace defective inserts in pairs on a new, appropriately sized.

Setting

Installation is in the reverse order.

PERFORMANCE ORDER

  1. Track reliability of cross maslotokov and be sure to thoroughly clean the neck of all (main and connecting rod) clean lint-free cloth.
  2. Wipe all the new or the old pads, then brush them clean motor oil. Track correctness of installation of inserts in the corresponding bed unit covers or heads of rods.
  3. Place the crankshaft in the cylinder block, guiding crankpins to the respective heads of rods.
  4. Put the bearing caps to the respective connecting rods and bearings block, tighten the fixing bolts / nuts to the required torque (see. Table sizes and adjustments in the end of this manual).
  5. If you replace the bearing shells, check clearances are using the measurement kit Plastigage.
  6. Attach the rear oil seal, gas distribution and drive chain, flywheel / drive plate and other components removed.
