1. Explicit deterioration of the engine, or in the event of disruptions in the known good cylinder fuel system and ignition system, check the cylinder compressions. Compression test results provide the most accurate information about the condition of the engine. |
2. To get accurate results, check the engine should be warmed up, the battery is fully charged, and spark plugs are turned. You will need assistance of another person. |
3. Switch off the ignition system by disconnecting the central high-voltage wire from a cover of the distributor of ignition, connect it with a mass on the engine block. |
4. Insert a compression gauge into the hole for a candle of 1st cylinder. Preferably use a meter with threaded tip. |
5. Ask the assistant to the full throttle pedal is depressed for a few seconds and turn the starter. After the first two turns of the crankshaft pressure meter should be increased to the maximum. Record the maximum meter reading. |
6. Repeat the measurement for other cylinders, record meter readings. |
7. Indications of compression in the cylinders should be almost identical. If the difference is greater than the compression rate, the motor is defective. On the serviceable engine pressure should accrue quickly. Low pressure after the first piston stroke and slow increase at the subsequent steps of compression specifies in deterioration of piston rings. If after the first piston stroke pressure low, and at the subsequent steps of compression does not increase, the reason is leak in valves or tightness of the cylinder head gasket (the cause may also be a crack in the cylinder head). Compression decrease can also be caused by deposits of carbon on the valve heads. |
8. If the pressure in each cylinder corresponds to the lower limit or below this limit, then through the spark plug hole into the cylinder enter a little engine oil (about a teaspoon full), then repeat the test. |
9. If after introduction of oil into the cylinder compression raised, it is possible to make an unambiguous conclusion that the worn pistons and cylinder walls. If the compression increases slightly or not at all increase, the valve leaks due to burnout or tightness cylinder head gasket. |
10. If a compression equally low only in two next cylinders, the most likely reason is the lining burn-out between these cylinders. An additional feature is the presence of traces of oil in the coolant. |
11. If the compression in one of cylinders is 20% lower than in the rest, and the engine is not completely stable idling, the cause is the wear of the cylinder cam camshaft. |
12. If the value is significantly higher than normal compression, the combustion chamber is covered by deposit adjournment. In this case, it is necessary to remove the cylinder head and remove carbon deposits. |
13. Upon completion of the measurement, and screw the spark replace the high-voltage wire. |
