Check tightness of connections



The presence of puddles on the floor of the garage or motor or apparent humidity under the hood or on the underside of the car suggests a leak that must be found and rectified immediately. Sometimes it can be difficult to locate the leak, especially if the engine compartment is very dirty. Leaking oil or liquid can also be demolished back flow of air under the car, creating a false impression of where the leak is.

Sump

Engine oil can leak from the drain plug.

Oil from the filter

The oil can leak from the base of the oil filter.

The gearbox

The oil may leak through the seal at the inner ends of the drive shafts.

Antifreeze

Leaking antifreeze often leaves a transparent coating.
