Check brake pad wear
Every 15 000 km or vehicle once a year, check the thickness of the front and rear brake linings.
Disc brakes Check wear on the brake pads of disc brakes performed as follows: visually estimate the thickness of the brake pads. If necessary, use a portable lamp and a small mirror. If a visual inspection is difficult, remove the wheel; Measure the thickness of the outer brake pad with a metal base pads. The thickness of the inner brake pad determine visually; master front and rear disc brake wear limit is achieved if the thickness is 7 mm with a metallic base pads. In this case, all the brake pads on one axis must be replaced.
NOTE Under the most adverse operating conditions of a vehicle brake pad wear is not more than 1 mm per 1000 km of running a car. During normal operation of the vehicle service life of the brake pad is at least 30 000 km mileage. |
Drum brakes Checking the wear of brake linings of drum brakes performed as follows:

remove the plug inspection hole on the inside of the brake shield (Fig. 12.2); using a portable lamp to visually assess the thickness of the brake lining; If any lining thickness was reduced to 2.5 mm, replace all the rear brake pads; check for traces of oil and brake fluid on the stocks.
