Change motor oil and oil filter (every 4800 km (3000 miles) or once every 3 months)

Regular and frequent changes of the motor oil and oil filter are the most important preventive procedure of routine maintenance of the car, which lies within the competence of the amateur mechanic. Its importance is determined by the tendency of engine oils to dilution with time, which leads to premature wear of the internal components of the engine.

Despite the fact that some sources recommend taking oil filter change only every other oil change, the drafters of the Guidelines, based on the insignificant cost of the new filter and the relative simplicity of the procedure, as well as taking into account the significance of the associated benefits, it is advised to change the filter every time you change motor oil.

Prepare all necessary to perform this procedure, materials and tools.

Tools and materials required to perform the change of motor oil and oil filter.

1 - drain capacity - should be shallow, but wide enough to accommodate the entire volume of the discharged oil and prevent it from Strait
2 - Rubber gloves - When unscrewing the drain plug and oil filter oil inevitably falls on the hands (gloves help prevent burns)
3 - Gate - In some cases the drain plug with a lot of give and difficult to gate in combination with a removable head is designed to facilitate the implementation of the procedure
4 - replaceable face head - in combination with the collar or ratchet drive is used to the give the drain plug (to match it in size - is preferable to use a 6-inch head)
5 - Key for screwing the oil filter - such belt-type key requires sufficient space around the filter
6 - Key for screwing the oil filter - The key of this type is put on the bottom of the filter and can be rotated by means of the gate or the mount (under a different size filters available keys with different diameters)

To collect spilled oil on hand, you must have on hand a sufficient number of rags, old newspapers or paper towels. Access by car is greatly facilitated after the last hanging by a winch installed on the viaduct or over a viewing hole or locking in the raised position with the help of props.

In no case does not perform any work underneath the car, locked in the raised position by means of a jack (s)!

If you want to start first in the life of independent oil and filter change, read the pre-arrangement of all relevant components of the forthcoming operation (the oil filter and drain plug). In the course of the section of the engine and exhaust system will be heated to a substantial temperature, so you should think in advance every move to avoid contact with hot surfaces.

PERFORMANCE ORDER

  1. Warm up the engine to normal operating temperature. The time it takes to warm up the engine reasonably spend on preparation for the work of all the necessary materials and tools. Required grade of oil actually occurring conditions can be selected using the information provided in subsection Recommended lubricants and fluids at the beginning of this Chapter.
  2. Once the engine oil will be enough to warm up (in hot condition, it follows from the engine easier and better washes away all the accumulated sludge in the crankcase), Poddomkratte car and establish it on props. Remember that safety - above all!
  3. Place all of the necessary materials, rags, newspapers and tools under the car. Place the prepared container under the drain plug in the sump. With capacity remember that at the beginning of the oil will flow under a certain pressure, but as far as decreasing its amount, the jet will gradually weaken, changing its trajectory accordingly.
  4. Trying not to touch the heated surfaces of the exhaust system, use a spanner or socket wrench to the give the drain plug located at the lowest point of the oil pan. Depending on how much heat the oil, you can use or not in the final stage unscrewing the plug protective gloves.

Drain plug at the bottom of the sump and must come unscrewed using a removable socket wrench or Allen wrench - Do not use unscrewing the plug spanner - it is fraught with the rounded corners of the head plug.

  1. Allow the oil to drain completely into the drain capacitance. Perhaps, as the weakening of the jet pressure is required to move a little container.
  2. After the oil ceases to flow from the sump drain plug, wipe with a clean cloth. Otherwise, adhered to plug small metal filings would lead to an immediate contamination of fresh oil.
  3. Wipe the area around the drain plug and replace the plug firmly tightened its key. If available a torque wrench, tighten the plug with demanded effort.
  4. Move the drain container under the oil filter.
  5. To release the filter, use one of the types of special keys (see. Using a key chain or a belt type can lead to irreversible destruction of the filter, but it does not really matter, since in any case he should be replaced.
  6. Completely remove the old filter. Be careful - it is filled with oil. Drain oil from the filter container.
  7. By comparison, according to make the old and new types of filters with each other.
  8. Wipe with a clean cloth seating surfaces with a filter on the engine block by removing from it all traces of oil and adhering dirt and sludge. Examine remove the filter, make sure it is not a rubber gasket remained stuck to the engine block. If this happens, remove the gasket from the unit (use a flashlight to simplify procedures).
  9. Lubricate the gasket on the new filter with a thin layer of clean motor oil.
  10. Follow the manufacturer's instructions on the packaging of the new filter, the latest engine. Most manufacturers warn against the use of a filter for the twisting of any type of keys in order to avoid damage to the seal as a result of tightening excessively.
  11. Remove from the vehicle all the tools, rags, newspapers, drain capacity, trying not to spill oil from the last, then lower the car on the ground.
  12. Navigate to the engine and look for the Gulf oil filler cap.
  13. To avoid splashing, pour oil into the neck of the funnel.
  14. Fill the engine with about 4 (3.7) liters of oil. Wait a few minutes, allowing the oil to drain into the tray, and then check the level on the dipstick measurement (Section Check of levels of liquids (each 400 km (250 miles) run or weekly)). If the oil level is above the level of ADD (Fill), start the engine, circulate fresh butter on it.
  15. Let the engine run for about 1 minute, then turn it off. Just look under the car and make sure there are no traces of oil leaks in the area of the drain plug and oil filter. If necessary, pull components.
  16. After protsirkulirovalo new oil on the engine and fill the filter again check the level on the dipstick. If necessary, top up.

During the first few trips after the change of motor oil as often as possible, pay attention to the presence of signs of leaks and regularly check the oil level.

The old oil drained from the engine in its present state can not be re-usable and should be delivered to recycling. Special Recycling centers and car service workshops usually take refinement, which, after refining can be used on. Once drained oil has cooled down, it should be transferred to a suitable, preferably sealed containers for transport to the collection point.
