Cooling system (emptying, washing and refueling) (each 48 000 km (30,000 miles) or every two years)

Antifreeze is poisonous and corrosive fluid, so avoid getting it on exposed areas of the body and the painted surfaces of the vehicle. Casually got splashes immediately wash off with plenty of water. Do not leave the coolant spilled on the garage floor, or stored in an open container - sweet smell of antifreeze can easily attract the attention of children and pets. Contact with even a small amount of coolant inside the body with serious consequences, including death. Before you begin to drain the coolant consult your dealer branch of the rules of disposal. In many regions, set up special centers handle poisonous detentions of internal combustion engines.

In order to prevent corrosion and the formation of various types of deposits, affecting the efficiency of the engine and can cause damage due to overheating, should regularly emptying the cooling system, washing it with a mixture of fresh and filling. During service the cooling system should be checked the status of all its hoses and the radiator cap. If necessary, replacing the defective components.

PERFORMANCE ORDER

  1. Cock a lay brake and block (wedges) wheels.

If the vehicle has just been used before proceeding to wait a few hours of work required for the cooling of the engine.

  1. Install a drain fitting the radiator capacity to receive a large amount of coolant in it. Radiator drain plug on the models equipped with the 6-cylinder engine is located at the bottom right of the radiator, on models with engine V8 - left. If it's possible, pull on the drain hose nozzle with a diameter of about 10 mm for the most accurate adjustment of the jet direction of the fluid flowing in the drain container, then open the valve fitting (for turning may have to use pliers).
  2. After complete emptying of the surge tank system, remove the radiator cap, and providing draining out of him. Then move the container under the drain plug of the engine block - in the V8 engine on each side of the block there is one such traffic jam on the 6-cylinder engine plug located on the right side of the block. Remove the stopper allow coolant to drain from the unit.

Often the cooler does not begin to flow out of the unit after removing the stoppers. The reason for this phenomenon is usually a blockage of the drain rust jumper from which is formed immediately behind the plug. Fight jumper screwdriver.

On 6-cylinder engine drain plug (arrow) is located on the left side of the unit directly under the exhaust manifold.

In the cylinder block V8 engines equipped with two drain plugs - one on each side.

  1. While the cooler flows, check the condition of radiator hoses, heater hoses, and all the hose clamps (see. Section Check and replacement of hoses passing under the hood (every 4800 km (3000 miles) or once every 3 months)).
  2. Replace any damaged hoses and clamps.
  3. After the final rinse the radiator drain the system with fresh water from a garden hose. Washing continues as long as the radiator starts to clean water flows. The water stream will remove from the internal surfaces of a radiator trace deposits, but can not withdraw from the system scale and corrosion products.
  4. The last of these products are derived by chemical means using a special cleaner - follow the manufacturer's instructions. In the case of severe corrosion or damage to the radiator should be removed (Chapter cooling systems, heating and air conditioning) and send it to a special repair shop.
  5. Disconnect the surge tank overflow radiator hose and rinse the tank with clean water, and then connect the hose in place.
  6. Close the drain valve and tighten the fitting of the radiator. Replace and tighten the drain plug (s) of the engine block.
  7. Turn the control knob modes heater to maximum.
  8. Slowly top up with fresh coolant to the radiator (50% mixture of antifreeze and water). Bay continue to fill the radiator. Add coolant to the surge tank to the bottom of its label.
  9. Leaving open the radiator cap, start the engine (the car should be installed in a well-ventilated room or outdoors). Wait for the opening of the thermostat (coolant will start to circulate through the radiator and upper hose latter warms).
  10. Turn off the engine and let it cool. Top up with the required amount of coolant to raise its level flush with the jaws of a jellied mouth of a radiator.
  11. Squeeze the upper radiator hose, drove him out of the air, and then, if necessary, add coolant. Replace the radiator cap.
  12. Start the engine, allow it to warm up to normal operating temperature and check for leaks.
