Checking the steering and suspension

Signs of failure data subsystems of the vehicle is excessive play of the steering wheel (until the start of the steering wheel), the excessive sway of the car when cornering, noticeable movement of the body relative to the frame of the car when driving on uneven coating or the presence of sticking points when you turn the steering wheel.

Regularly jacking front of the vehicle, set it on props and inspect the steering gear components and suspension for signs of wear. In view of the nature of the work should first make sure of reliability of fixing the car in the raised position.

PERFORMANCE ORDER

  1. Check the condition of the wheel bearings. To do this manually rotate the front wheels. Listen to the sound of the wheel and look to for signs of backlash (lateral runout) during rotation of the wheel. Grasp the tire at the top and bottom, and tug it forward and backward (in and out). The presence of any free running during this test will be a sign of weakening the efforts of a tightening of the bearing assembly. In case of suspicion of whack wheel bearings, contact for more detailed information to the materials of the Head Suspension and steering.
  2. Under the car, check the condition of fasteners and suspension components of a steering drive. Try to identify the bolts from loosening, damage and violation of the quality of fastening components, check the condition of rubber plugs at the nodes of articulation components. Inspect the assembly of gear for signs of leaks of oil and grease. Check the condition of hoses hydrostrengthening steering, if necessary, eliminate the causes of leaks. Check for signs of leakage and shock absorbers; the detection of traces of shock absorbers should be replaced.
  1. Check suspension components for signs of damage - the steering damper may leak fluid.
  1. Ask the assistant rotating the steering wheel right and left themselves at this time, observe the behavior of the components of the steering gear. It is unacceptable presence of backlashes, jamming and friction points of the components to each other. If steering components do not react properly to the rotation of the steering wheel, try to identify the cause of the backlash.
  2. Constant velocity joints (CV-joints) drive shafts 4WD models are closed outside the protective covers. Check covers for cracks, signs of wear and signs of leaks lubricant. Damaged covers must be replaced on a mandatory basis, since otherwise the CV-shaniry soon will be damaged due to contamination.
  1. Push the protective cover CV-joint drive shaft, checking for defects.
