Coolant circuit

Coolant circuit

OT, B6, BP (SOHC)

1 - expansion tank
2 - radiator
3 - radiator fan
4 - a cover of a radiator
5 - expansion tank model F

6 - water pump
7 - Thermostat
8 - thermal switch
9 - the fan relay

The cooling system consists of a radiator, water pump, thermostat and electric fan.

The coolant circuit is controlled thermostatically. While the engine is cold, coolant circulates only in the engine block heater and heat exchanger. When heated coolant thermostat opens and the cooling liquid starts to flow through the radiator. The coolant is driven by a water pump, which in turn is driven by a V-belt. The coolant passes through the radiator and is cooled down from above with air flowing through the plate.

The electric fan provides additional cooling. When the coolant temperature increases to + 91 ? C, thermal switch includes a relay blower. If the coolant temperature falls below + 84 ? C, the thermal switch automatically turns off the fan.

Coolant reservoir serves as a surge tank and collects fluid expands when heated and after cooling the engine returns it back to the circuit. Due to this circuit is constantly filled and provides good cooling. Refill the coolant should be only through the expansion tank.

The radiator fan may start automatically when the engine is off and the ignition on. This process is caused by the heat in the engine compartment, may be repeated several times. When working in the engine compartment on the hot engine should always be aware of the possibility of unexpected inclusion of the fan. Therefore, as far as possible when working in the engine compartment, turn off the ignition.
