Removal and installation of the water pump



The water pump can not be repaired. In case of failure the pump must be replaced. When a fault gland coolant flows to the cylinder block. The water pump is driven by a V-belt.

Removing the engine E1, EZ, E5

PERFORMANCE ORDER

  1. Disconnect earth cable from the battery.

This data is erased from the memory of malfunctions of the engine or a protective code of a radio receiver. Before disconnecting the battery should read instructions in Section Removal and installation of the battery.


  1. Remove the lower trim the engine -1-.
  1. Drain and collect the coolant.
  2. Loosen the bolts of the water pump pulley.
  3. Remove the V-belt -2-, see chap. Gasoline engines, Section Removal and installation / belt tension.
  4. Loosen the water pump pulley -5.
  5. Disconnect coolant hose -3-, after loosening the clamp.
  6. Unscrew the bolts of the water pump -5- and remove the water pump with a bypass pipe system -4.

Setting

PERFORMANCE ORDER

  1. To put on a new bypass pipe lining.
  2. Insert the water pump so that the overflow pipe is completely sitting at the pump. Tighten bolts with a force of 30 Nm.
  3. Check that the water pump rotates freely and never caught on.
  4. Fit coolant hose and secure the clamp.
  5. Install the pulley and tighten by hand.
  6. Install the V-belt, see. Chapter Gasoline engines, Section Removal and installation / belt tension.
  7. Tighten the belt pulley.
  8. Adding coolant.
  9. Connect the earth cable to the battery.
  10. If available, set the clock and set the security code radio.
  11. After the test drive, check the tightness of the cooling system.

Removing engine OT, B5, B6, BP

PERFORMANCE ORDER

  1. Disconnect earth cable from the battery.

  1. Drain and collect the coolant.
  2. Remove the belt cover himself toothed belt, see. Chapter Gasoline engines, Section Removal and installation of a gear belt of engines VZ, B5, B6 (SOHC), BP (SOHC).
  3. Engine BP (DOHC): Pull out the dipstick and unscrew the dipstick guide tube.
  1. Unscrew the water fitting -1- and remove the bypass pipe -3-.
  1. Engine BP (DOHC): Unscrew the guide rollers and tension spring.
  2. Unscrew the bolts of the water pump and remove the pump -5.

Setting

PERFORMANCE ORDER

  1. Clean the sealing surface of the cylinder block, the water pump and the water fittings first scraper and then wipe with a cloth to remove any residual sealing.
  2. Carefully insert a new pump with a new gasket -5 -6. Tighten bolts to 25 Nm.
  3. Engine BP (DOHC): Set the guide and tension rollers with spring and tightened to 45 Nm.
  4. Fit a new gasket on the bypass conduit -4 -3.
  5. Install a water pipe -1- c -4- new gasket and tightened to 25 Nm.
  6. To establish and pull the toothed belt, see. Chapter Gasoline engines, Section Removal and installation of a gear belt of engines VZ, B5, B6 (SOHC), BP (SOHC).
  7. Adding coolant.
  8. Connect the earth cable to the battery.
  9. If available, set the clock and set the security code radio.
  10. Warm up the engine. Then set the car on a dry surface and check the tightness of the cooling system.

Removing diesel engine

  1. Disconnect earth cable from the battery.

  1. Drain and collect the coolant.
  1. Remove the belt cover himself toothed belt, see. Chapter Gasoline engines, Section Removal and installation of a gear belt of engines VZ, B5, B6 (SOHC), BP (SOHC).
  2. Remove the dipstick and unscrew the probe guide pipe -2-.
  3. Unscrew the bolts of the water pump -3- and remove the pump.

Setting

PERFORMANCE ORDER

  1. Clean the sealing surface of the cylinder block, the water pump and the water fittings first scraper and then wipe with a cloth to remove any residual sealing.
  2. Carefully insert a new pump with a new gasket -3- -4-. Tighten bolts to 25 Nm.
  3. Screw the guide tube 2-dipstick with a force of 25 Nm to insert the probe.
  4. Insert new gasket -1-.
  5. To establish and pull the toothed belt, see. Chapter Gasoline engines, Section Removal and installation of a gear belt of engines VZ, B5, B6 (SOHC), BP (SOHC).
  6. Adding coolant.
  7. Connect the earth cable to the battery.
  8. If available, set the clock and set the security code radio.
  9. Warm up the engine. Then set the car on a dry place and check the tightness of the cooling system.
