Checking the spark plug wires, distributor cap and slider (every 48 000 km (30,000 miles) or every two years)

Checking the spark plug wires should be carried out regularly in accordance with the schedule of routine maintenance of the car, and every time you replace the spark plugs.

To avoid entanglement of wires when connecting check each of them in turn.

PERFORMANCE ORDER

  1. Disconnect the first candle. To do this, grasp the tip (cover) wire and pull it, while turning slightly. In no case should not be taken and pull the cord.
  2. Check the inner wall of the sheath tip for corrosion (as the fragile crust of white). Again, put a tip on the shank candles. The tip should stay on the shank tight enough. If not, remove the tip of the pliers and gently bend the metal terminal inside it so that the latter firmly held on the shank candles.
  3. Clean cloth, wipe the entire length of the wire, removing from it all the mud deposits and traces of grease. After cleaning the wires check for breakdowns, burnouts, insulation cracks and other damages. Do not bend the wire excessively, as this could lead to breakage.
  4. Disconnect the wire from the distributor cap. Again, always pull the tip, not the cord. As before, check the tip is mounted on the terminal and the presence of traces of corrosion or other damage. Attach the wire to the terminal distributor cap.
  5. One, check the condition of the remaining wires of spark plugs, ensuring reliable fastening of wires on plugs and distributor cap terminals after the test).
  6. If you want replacement of candle wires, the wires must be purchased, particularly suitable for the engine of your car. The offered for sale usually have a set of wires are cut to length and fitted with ferrules. Remove and replace each wire individually in order to avoid misuse of the connection (the observance of which is essential for normal functioning of the engine).
  7. Give cover bolts distributor. On the V8 engines for access to disconnect the vacuum lines EGR (EGR), and electrical connectors. Pull the cover from the wires connected to it up, separating it from the body of the distributor and set aside.
  8. Now it is clearly visible at the end of the slider shaft of the distributor. Carefully inspect for cracks and coal paths. Ensure the adequacy of the force exerted by a spring central terminals and inspect the nozzle runner in detecting signs of corrosion and wear. In the absence of certainty in determining the state of the thumb, replace it.
  1. Rotor, distributor should be checked for wear and corrosion, as shown in the figure (in the absence of certainty in determining the state of the thumb, replace it).
  1. If you want to hold a replacement, remove the slider from the shaft and replace it with a new one. Runner interference seated in the shaft and can be removed by poddevaniya any lever.
  2. The slider may be mounted on the distributor shaft uniquely. Installed in the tightness of the slider is equipped with a built-keyed guide that during the installation should be aligned with the groove on the end of the shaft (or vice versa).
  3. Check the distributor for the presence of carbon tracks, cracks and other damage. Carefully check the terminals inside the cover for signs of corrosion and damage. The presence of small deposits is valid. Again, in the case of lack of confidence in the assessment of the cover simply replace it. Before installing the cover, be sure to apply a little silicone grease on each of the terminals. Observe also the correctness of the installation in the lid of the carbon brush (central terminal) - excessively wide gap between the brush and runner may cause burn-runner and / or damage to the distributor cap.
The figure shows the case of the most common problems found during the inspection cover of the distributor (in case of lack of confidence in determining the state of the cover, replace it with a new one).
  1. To replace the cover simply remove it from the distributor and one move the spark plug wires from it to prepare a new cover. In no case do not allow the violation of the order of wiring!
  2. Place the lid on the valve and secure it with screws.
