Checking the system of preheat

If you have difficulty starting the engine, first check the compression. In case of insufficient compression engine does not start at low temperatures. Checking compression, see. Chapter Gasoline engines, Section Compression check.

Check glow plugs

PERFORMANCE ORDER

  1. Unscrew the glow plug cables.
  1. Connect an ohmmeter to turn each candle and check whether the current flows between the cylinder block and the contact spark.
  1. If no current flows, the glow plug is defective and should be replaced.
  1. Unscrew defective candle. Insert new spark plug and tighten with a torque of 20 Nm.

Tightening torque must not be exceeded, otherwise it will be damaged by the heat core and candle prematurely fail. Ensure that a candle did not get oil or fuel. Follow instructions for the burnt cores.

  1. Install cables and tighten with a torque of 20 Nm.

If the problem is not found, even though the engine is started badly, visually check the glow plug when the glow. To do this, remove the nozzle and watch while candles glow through the holes.

Candles burnt cores

Burnt cores are often the consequence of fault injectors. Such damage can not be caused by deficiencies in or on the spark plugs. If found glow with similar injuries -strelka-, it is not enough to replace them. You should also make an inspection of the pressure and tightness spray nozzles (performed in the workshop).

Check glow plug relay

PERFORMANCE ORDER

  1. Disconnect plugs from the glow plug relay.
  1. Connect the switch to the battery by means of two auxiliary wires.
  2. Connect an ohmmeter and measure the resistance between the two terminals.

The resistance must be 13 Ohm.

  1. If the value is not correct, the relay should be replaced.
