Check fluid level, leakage control

The following describes how the fluid level check, made every 1,000 kilometers, monthly and before every long trip. For other checks fluid levels can be found below in the section on the specific maintenance procedures. Regardless of the inspection intervals of the schedule does not allow the leaking fluid under the car, such leaks indicate a problem that should be addressed immediately.

Liquids are neot?mlemoy part of the lubrication system, cooling, brake and windshield washer system. Due to the gradual flow and / or fluid contamination during normal operation of the vehicle, they must be replaced periodically. See "Types and amounts of used lubricants and fluids" in the specifications, before embarking on a refillable liquid in any of the above components.

When checking the fluid level every car should stand on a flat surface.

Visually check for leaks, abrasions, cracks and damage following lines, hoses and connections:

? Fuel lines;
? Coolant hoses;
? Brake pipelines and hoses;
? Hydraulic power steering line;
? Line Conditioner.

Engine oil

Visual inspection of leaks

PERFORMANCE ORDER

1. In a large and greasy engine oil consumption, check leaks. To do this, verify the following locations:
? Gasket filler cap for cracks or damage.
? Blow: the vent hose from the cylinder head cover to the air intake hose.
? Installation of the cylinder head cover.
? Cylinder head gasket.
? Cork removal of oil (O-ring).
? Installation of the oil filter: filter fit to the flange.
? Laying the sump.
? Front and rear crankshaft oil.
2. Since the presence of leaking oil spread over a large surface of the motor, leaks immediately difficult to determine.
3. Wash the engine. Generator close plastic bag. Sprinkle with the engine in the usual cold cleaner and through short time wash water at the car wash.
4. Place coupling and seals on the outside of the engine sprinkle lime or talc.
5. Check the oil level, top up if necessary.
6. Make a test drive. Since the oil in a warm engine reduces its viscosity and faster acting leaks, you must perform a test drive at a distance of about 30 km on the highway.
Finally, examine the engine with lamps and localize leaks, rectify the fault.

Checking the oil level dipstick

PERFORMANCE ORDER

The oil level indicator is shown located on the dashboard (see. Above). In 4-cylinder gasoline engine "271" with the 6/02 release, as well as in 6-cylinder gasoline engines and diesel engines of the hole for the oil dipstick (1) closed with a plug (2). These engines to check the oil level during maintenance uses a special probe number ET 120 589 21 July 00.

4-cylinder petrol engine

PERFORMANCE ORDER

1. Pass on the car to warm the engine and stop on level ground.
2. After stopping the engine, wait for about 5 minutes to allow the oil sump.
If you begin to measure the level of motor oil immediately after the engine is switched off, some of the oil will remain in the upper part of the engine, which significantly affect the accuracy of measurement.

3. Remove the oil dipstick (1) and wipe it with a clean cloth. (2) - Cover the holes for pouring oil.

4. Enter into the hole up to the stop level indicator and then pull it out.

5. Check the oil level of the index. It should be between the MAX (3) and MIN (4).

If the oil level is above the mark MAX, there is a risk of damage to the catalytic converter.

6. If the oil level is at the mark (4) or below, it is necessary to add oil to the mark MAX. The difference in oil level between the MAX and MIN corresponds to a volume of 2 liters.

If accidental oil were handled, you must suck it with a special device.

7. The oil is filled through the plug (2), a cylinder head cover. (1) - the dipstick (refer to the illustration 5.10). For topping up, use only the given specifications oil.

An arbitrary combination of various types of oils is not recommended. If possible, it should also not mix oil of the same type, but different brands. Motor oil of the same type, the same brand, but of different viscosity, if needed, may be mixed.

6-cylinder petrol engine 112, diesel engines

PERFORMANCE ORDER

1. Pass on the car to warm up the engine and park the vehicle on level ground.
2. After stopping the engine, wait for about 5 minutes to allow the oil sump.

3. Remove the cover (1) with openings for the oil dipstick (2). (3) - the fuel filter, the illustration shows a diesel engine 611.

4. Insert into the hole to stop the special determination of the oil level dipstick.
5. After 3 seconds. pull out the dipstick and check the oil level on it.

Engine 112:
The oil level according to the probe The volume of oil
120 mm 4.00 L
126 mm 4.50 L
132 mm 5.00 L
140 mm 5.50 L
148 mm 6.00 L
154 mm 6.46 L
161 mm 7.00 L
168 mm 7.50 L
175 mm 8.00 L
183 mm 8.50 L
187 mm 8.75 L

6. Gasoline Engine 112: recalculated the oil level in the table to the appropriate volume. Identify the difference and, if necessary, add it to the engine.
7. Diesel Engines 611:

Engines to number 448 572 (30 Ind.? plant in Untertürkheim) and number 069 844 (Ind. ? 40, a factory in Berlin)

MAX = 138 mm
MIN = 110 mm.

Engines starting with number 448 573 (Ind. ? 30, a factory in Untertürkheim) and engine number 069 845 (Ind. ? 40, a factory in Berlin) -

MAX = 127.5 mm
MIN = 99.5 mm.

Ind. Number is behind the 6-digit model designation of the engine, such as "611,962."

8. The diesel engine 612:

Engines to number 134,163

MAX = 135 mm
MIN = 110 mm.

Engines starting with number 134164

MAX = 124.5 mm
MIN = 99.5 mm.

9. The diesel engine 612: the oil level must be between the MAX and MIN.

Consumption of motor oil

Max. 1l / 1000 km, depending on driving style.

Engine oil consumption can be determined only after a long run. During the break-in, it may exceed the given value. Frequent driving at high engine speed leads to an increase in oil consumption.

Checking the oil level is the important preventive procedure. The constant decline in the oil indicates either the presence of its leaks through the seals damaged or loose connections, or to burn it (internal leaks through the worn piston rings or the valve guides). Furthermore, it should pay attention to the condition of the oil. If the oil has a milky color or it can be composed to observe a drop of water, which indicates a possible violation of the cylinder head gasket leaks or cracks in the head or the cylinder block. In this case, the engine must be repaired immediately. Every time when measuring the oil level before wiping blade probe share it with thumb and forefinger hands. If this will be found adhering to the probe particles of dirt or metal particles, oil must be replaced (refer to Section Replacement of impellent oil and the oil filter).

Cooler Engine

PERFORMANCE ORDER

Do not suppose antifreeze hit on your skin or on the painted surfaces of the car. If this should happen, wash immediately with plenty of water and antifreeze. Antifreeze is highly toxic if ingested. Never leave it unattended in an open container or spilled on the floor; children or animals can get his sweet smell and they can drink it.

1. All vehicles covered in this manual are equipped with a cooling system with overpressure compensation type. White plastic expansion tank is located in the engine compartment and the hose is connected with a radiator. As the heating of the engine during its operation the expanding coolant fills the tank. At cooling of the engine coolant is automatically fed back into the cooling system that maintains a constant level.

2. Check the coolant level in the reservoir should be done regularly, at a strictly horizontal position of the car and the engine is off. The cold coolant level it should reach in the expansion tank to the level indicated by the arrow in the illustration.

The hot coolant level should be about 1.0 cm above.
Add 40% / 60% mixture of antifreeze based on ethylene glycol and water. It should apply the composition indicated in the specification.

Do not remove the filler cap on the expansion tank or radiator cap to check the coolant level before full cooling of the engine! The level in the tank varies depending on the engine temperature. When the engine is cold, the coolant level should be above the mark ?MIN? on the tank. As the heat of the engine level should approach the label ?MAX?. If it is not, allow the engine to cool and then remove the cover from the tank.

3. Run the car and again measure the coolant level. If to the necessary level required to add a small amount of coolant, then you can use clean water. Often, however, the addition of water dilute antifreeze. In order to ensure the normal ratio of antifreeze and water are always made up to the desired level of the desired compound.
4. If the coolant level falls regularly, the system may leak. Inspect the radiator, hoses, filler cap, drain plugs and the water pump (refer to Section Check of functioning of the cooling system and the coolant frost resistance. Replacement fluid). If leaks are found, make a leak check the expansion tank cap and radiator in a service station.
5. If you need to remove the cover, wait until the engine has cooled, then wrap a piece of thick cloth around the cap and loosen it until the first stop. If the cap from the steam starts to escape, or cooler, allow the engine to cool a little, and only then remove the cover.
6. You must also check the state of the coolant. It should be relatively clear. If the liquid is brown or rusty color, it is necessary to drain, flush the system and fill it with a new mixture. Even if the cooler looks normally, entering into its structure corrosion inhibitors over time lose their effectiveness, so it should be replaced at regular intervals.
7. To check the coolant frost must use a hydrometer.

brake fluid

PERFORMANCE ORDER

Brake fluid can harm your eyes and damage painted surfaces of the car, so be very careful when handling it. Do not use brake fluid, which was open for a long time, or that more than one year. Brake fluid tends to absorb moisture from the air, which can lead to a dangerous loss of the braking system. Use only the recommended type of brake fluid. Mixing different types of liquid can lead to failure of the braking system.

1. The brake fluid reservoir (1) is located behind the left engine compartment. It has two chambers, each for its braking circuit.

2. The brake fluid is tested visually by markings on the plastic reservoir mounted on the master cylinder. When the lid is closed the brake fluid level must be between the MAX (2) and MIN (3) .If level below admissible, first wipe top of the tank and cover with a clean cloth to prevent dirt from entering the system after removing the cover. Top up to the necessary level the recommended liquid, but do not overfill.
3. While the cap is removed the tank, check the fluid reservoir and the master cylinder for contamination.
If there are particles of rust, dirt or water droplets from the fluid system should be drained and pour a new one.
4. After additions to the desired level of the tank, make sure that the cap is level to avoid leakage of liquid and / or dirt.
5. The fluid level in the master cylinder will fall slightly as a result of wear of the friction brake linings. There is no need to refill it until level remains near a label ?MIN?; it will rise after replacement of overlays. Very low level may indicate worn brake pads. Check them for wear (refer to the brake system checked. Adjusting the parking brake).
6. If the brake fluid is constantly falling, immediately check the entire system for leaks. Inspect brake lines, hoses and couplings, with calipers, wheel cylinders and the master cylinder (refer to the brake system checked. Adjusting the parking brake, check and replacement of hoses of an impellent compartment, localization of leaks).
7. If the test liquid level the tank is empty or nearly empty, the brake system should be checked for leaks and bled (see Chapter Coupling and power shafts).

Checking the oil level in the tank of the hydraulic system of the amplifier of a steering

The reservoir hydraulic power-assisted steering is in the rear of the engine compartment. Refer to Section Check the fluid level of steering hydrostrengthening.

Windshield Washer Fluid

Concentrate steklomoyuschego means flammable.

When handling concentrate steklomoyuschego means the use of fire, open flame and smoking are prohibited.

PERFORMANCE ORDER

1. Open the cover (1) and visually check the fluid level.

2. If necessary, add a mixture of concentrate for cleaning glasses and drinking water. The capacity of the reservoir is shown in the specification.
3. In areas with a temperate climate system can be charged with ordinary water, but it is recommended to add water for washing glasses. The tank must be filled to not more than two-thirds of that was space for expansion of water during freezing. In areas with cold climates, use a special antifreeze for washing the windshield, reducing the freezing point of the liquid, which can be bought in any shop of automobile accessories. Usually it is sold in concentrated or ready-made. If you purchased a concentrated antifreeze, mix it with water according to the manufacturer's instructions on the packaging.

For models with heated nozzles are usually sufficient frost mixture to -10 ? C.

Do not use anti-freeze cooling system - it will damage the painted surfaces of the vehicle.

4. Check the adjustment of nozzles, refer to Chapter Body.
