The brake system checked. Adjusting the parking brake

Dust generated by wear pads and adhering to brake components may contain hazardous asbestos. Do not Blow the dust by means of compressed air and do not inhale it! Do not use petroleum-based solvents to remove dust. The dust should be washed off special brake cleaner or methylated spirit to drain capacitance. After wiping the brake system components with a damp cloth rag and the contents of the discharge capacity should be kept in a closed container and signed. In the future, if possible, try to not use asbestos-containing components.

In addition to inspections at specified intervals condition of brake mechanisms should be made every time when removing the wheels or signs of malfunction in the system. To ensure the safety of driving the following procedures test the brake system are the most important of all the procedures made by you on car servicing.

Signs of problems in the braking system

PERFORMANCE ORDER

1. Disc brakes may have a built-in wear indicators friction linings, which signal that the lining wear has reached a critical value. This pad should be changed immediately, otherwise brake discs are damaged and will need expensive repairs.
2. Any of the following signs may indicate a potential defect in the braking system:

a) If squeezing the brake pedal car "leads" in one direction.
b) Brakes braking issue scraping or squealing noises.
c) The brake pedal has excessive speed.
d) The brake pedal pulsates (this is normally only when the system is ABS).
e) is leaking brake fluid (usually on the inner side of the tire or the wheel).
3. In the event that at least one of these symptoms immediately inspect the braking system components.

Brake lines and hoses

PERFORMANCE ORDER

The brake system is mainly used steel brake lines, except for the flexible reinforced hoses at the front wheels, and as connections at the rear axle. Regular inspection of these lines is very important.

1. Park the vehicle on level ground and turn off the engine. Remove the caps from the wheel. Loosen but do not remove the bolts all four wheels.
2. Poddomkratte car and reliably establish it on support.
3. Remove the wheel.
4. Check all brake lines and hoses for cracks and abrasions in their outer coating, leak, blistering and deformation. Check the brake lines at the front and rear of the vehicle for signs of softening, cracks, deformation or wear caused by friction of the other components. Check all couplings for signs of leaks and verify the reliability of mounting bolts and brake hose clamps.

5. Bend the arms at one and the other side of the brake hose to detect damage. Twist the hose should not be. Follow the direction of the colored line marked on the hose!

6. Turn the steering wheel left and right until it stops. Hoses should not be with the touch of the structural elements of the vehicle.
Upon detection of fluid leaks or damage should be immediately corrected. For a more detailed description of the procedures for repair brake system, refer to Chapter Brake System.

Check the thickness of the brake pads

PERFORMANCE ORDER

1. The thickness of the outer brake pad can be checked through the opening in the drive wheel using a flashlight. The inner pad can be checked with a flashlight and a mirror. If you want to more accurately estimate the thickness of the pads, remove the wheel and caliper to measure the block.

Experience shows that the brake pad wear of the wheels on the passenger side more than the driver. Therefore, to check the thickness of the brake pad is recommended to remove the wheel from the front passenger side.

2. Mark a paint position of the front wheel against the hub. This will set the A well balanced tire in its working position. Loosen the wheel bolts. The vehicle must be standing on the ground.
3. Lift the front of the car and establish on supports. Remove the front wheel.

4. The thickness (the arrows in the illustration) of the inner (1) and outer (2) check the pad through the opening in a support (4). (3) - the brake disk.

5. Wear limit thickness brake pad is reached, if the shoe pad (5) has a thickness of 2.0 mm. In this case, the brake pads must be replaced, refer to Chapter Coupling and power shafts.

In practice, 1 mm wear of the brake pad corresponds to at least 1000 km of run of the car. This rule corresponds to the adverse conditions of operation of the vehicle. Under normal conditions, the wear lining is considerably less. With a thickness of 10.0 mm pads (with base plate) block can still be operated for at least 3000 km.

6. Check the leakage of brake fluid in the calipers. If there is a leak urgent repair support (work HUNDRED).
7. Visually check the brake disks for groove tracks the impact of corrosion and cracks. Ventilated wheels cracked thick hair, and a length of 25 mm, the cause of which can be increased load, no need to replace. When the cracks and grooves deeper than 0.5 mm brakes must be replaced.
8. Check thickness of brake discs, refer to Section Replacement pads front disc brake.
9. Replace the front wheels so that coincided labels put at removal. Preliminary grease with a thin layer of bearing grease centering the belt drive wheel on the hub. Bolts do not grease the wheels. Rusty bolts replace. Tighten the screws. Lower the car on wheels and tighten bolts cross-wise the moment of 110 nm.

Test and burn-in parking brake

PERFORMANCE ORDER

1. Pass on the car and stop it on the road with not heavy traffic.
2. Depress the parking brake pedal in the 3 teeth and release the foot brake.
3. The parking brake has sufficient effectiveness of the action, if the car is held securely.

If the parking brake is pressed within a distance of 5 teeth, it is necessary to adjust the brake.

Burnishing

PERFORMANCE ORDER

As the parking brake drum brake 2 are located in the rear disk brakes. With this parking brake wear is negligible. As a result of corrosion or contamination of the brake drum brake pads brake torque may be reduced. For optimum braking action must be run-in.
1. Pass on dry, not having heavy traffic road.
2. At a speed of about 50 km / h the transmission in neutral. Pull the handle is released the parking brake, and then 2 - 3 times the parking brake pedal. So stop your vehicle.

When braking, parking brake, brake light does not come on. For this reason, be particularly careful with regard to the moving back of transport.

3. Continue to drive the vehicle at a constant speed of about 50 km / h.
4. Pull the handle is released the parking brake, depress the parking brake pedal and about 10 seconds. hold.

If the parking brake is badly delayed, after it has cooled repeat the process of braking.

5. If the parking brake is released after a bad check or after running and adjustment is delayed on the one hand, check the brake pads and cables and replace if necessary.

Adjusting the parking brake

PERFORMANCE ORDER

The parking brake must be adjusted once within the first service in the event that the brake pedal is moved more than five teeth.
1. Apply the parking brake pedal force of 170 N (17 kg). If the pedal is moved over teeth 5, the brake must be adjusted.

To do this, hook it over the pedal load cell and press the pedal so that the dynamometer showed 17 kg.

Operation lifting and car installation on supports is connected with danger! Therefore, prior to the operation to check out the Poddomkrachivanie and towing.

2. Lift and establish the car on supports so that the wheels rotate freely.
3. Fold the rear seat forward.

Models who are unable to charge, remove the cushions.

4. Fold the mat and remove the cover (1) of the brake cable equalizer.

5. Tighten the adjusting nut (2) on the equalizer (3) two turns.

6. Again, check the parking brake pedal. If necessary, retighten the adjusting nut so that the brake pedal with a force of 170 N (17 kg) could be moved to 5 teeth.
7. Release the parking brake and check it easy to rotate the rear wheels.
8. Replace the cover over the equalizer and put on the place mat.
9. Fold back the rear seat cushion, or install it.
10. Lower the car on wheels.
