Check and replacement of spark plugs. Checking the status of high-voltage wires

Refer also to Section Check and adjust the ignition timing.

Attention! Replace the spark plugs only in a cold or slightly warm engine. If candles are turned on the hot engine could be damaged thread cylinder head made of light metal.

Before you start, prepare all the necessary tools. Some manufacturers of spark plugs deliver special tools to measure the clearance of plugs.

Engines 111, 271

? Candlestick key 16 mm, for example, HAZET-2506 or -2776 (engines 111, 271) or HAZET-4766 (engine 112).
? In addition, it is recommended to buy special pincers, for example, HAZET 1849 which facilitate turning away the candles. MERCEDES-BENZ used for this assembly key 3277A.
? Depending on the number of cylinders of the engine the necessary amount of spark plugs. Applied spark plug listed in the Specifications.

Remove the spark plug

1 - spark plug wrench
2 - Mine candles
3 - ignition coil

PERFORMANCE ORDER

1. The best way to replace the spark plug is pre-purchase of new candles, adjustment of the gap and replacement of each candle in turn. When buying candles is very important to choose those candles that are designed for the engine of your car. Information about them is given in the specification.
2. Having a handy new candles, allow the engine to cool completely before removing the old ones. During this time, you can see the new candles for the presence of defects and check spark plug gap.

Do not touch the parts under high voltage. Persons with a pacemaker should not carry out any work with an electronic ignition system.

3. Remove ignition coils, refer to Section Removal and installation of the ignition coil.

4. Remove the spark plug using a spark plug wrench (1). At the same time, take care that the key was right and was not skewed.

Check

PERFORMANCE ORDER

1. Compare taken out with a candle in the photographs shown in Chapter Electric motor, it will give you useful information about the general state of the engine.
2. Check the probe electrode spacing. The desired gap value given in the specification.

In new spark electrode spacing is usually set correctly.

3. To set the distance between the contacts corresponding to bend the electrode mass. For this tap side thereon. When podgibaniem lean small screwdriver on the edge of the thread. In no case do not lean on the central electrode as it can be damaged.
4. Apply some copper-containing composition antiprihvatyvayuschego to thread the new spark. Install the spark in the cylinder head and replace it with your fingers until it stops, then tighten the head using a spark plug wrench. If possible, use a torque wrench tighten the spark to make sure that it is installed correctly. Tightening torque of candles included in the specifications.
Recommendation: To avoid the possibility of screwing the threaded candle is not put on her tail a small piece of rubber hose or plastic tubing. Flexible tube will act as a universal - the universal joint, allowing the alignment relative to the candle candlestick socket, and if the skew starts candle, the hose will slide on it, preventing cross threading.
5. Before connecting to the spark of high voltage (IV) wires carefully inspect it for damage, corrosion of internal contact and measure the resistance. If it is much higher than 30 ohm / meter - replace the whole set of wires.
6. Connect a wire to set a new candle, again using a rotary motion and holding the connector until it is put on a candle to the end.
7. Repeat the above procedure for the remaining spark plugs in series in order to avoid incorrect connection of candle wires explosives.

Setting

PERFORMANCE ORDER

1. Insert a candle and screw it all the way into the cylinder head. Then tighten the spark given specifications moment. This candle key (1) keep straight (A) without distorting it (B).

2. Replace the ignition coil, refer to Section Removal and installation of the ignition coil.

Repair damaged spark plug threads

PERFORMANCE ORDER

If it turns out that the thread under the spark plug in the cylinder head is damaged, it must be repaired. To do this, there is a corresponding tool and repair kit, for example, the company BERU. Special Drill the damaged thread is drilled. To do this, remove the cylinder head is not necessary. Then, in the head and cut a new thread plug is screwed into the threaded insert special adapter. Additionally installed threaded inserts candles sit firmly and ensure tightness.

Engine 112

It describes only differences from the 4-cylinder engines 111, 271.

Withdrawal

Dual ignition coil to two spark plugs a and b of the cylinder

1 - Shell coils a and b 2 - The designation on the cover of the valve

PERFORMANCE ORDER

1. Remove the cover from the end of the engine.
2. Remove the top part of the air filter housing (only for engines with an air filter, located on the side of the car).
3. Remove the air mass meter with a suction pipe (only for engines with an air filter, located on the side of the car).
4. Remove the engine cover and the air filter, refer to Section Removal and installation of the air filter.
5. Remove the ignition coil (1).
6. Disconnect the spark plug connector with a double wrench on the spark plugs on the cylinder head cover.
7. Remove the spark plug.

Setting

PERFORMANCE ORDER

1. Replace the spark of the hand all the way into the cylinder head, then tighten to 28nm.

Each cylinder has two spark. In order not to confuse the plugs, you must mark them as well as on the engine cover (2).

2. Connect the plugs with candles.
3. Install the ignition coil and secure point 8 nm.
4. Install the engine cover and the air filter, refer to Section Removal and installation of the air filter.
5. Install the air mass meter with a pipe (only for engines with an air filter, located on the side of the car).
6. Install the upper part of the air filter housing (only for engines with an air filter, located on the side of the car).
7. Attach the cover to the end of the engine.
