Corners of installation of forward wheels (the geometry of the front suspension and steering gear)

For checking and adjusting the geometry of the front suspension requires special knowledge and equipment.

The only lying within qualification of the average mechanic-fan, is to test the convergence of the front wheels. The drafters of the Guidelines recommended to apply for the implementation of the adjustments described below apply to the experts of dealer branch of the manufacturer of the vehicle.

Before you begin making adjustments, carefully check the condition of components of a steering drive, and install wheel bearing preload. Evaluate the condition of ball joints, suspension springs and fasteners. Perform the necessary repairs.

Check the tire tread of the front wheels for signs of uneven wear, because of the nature of wear often leads to the definite conclusion about the state of the vehicle chassis components (see. Section devoted to troubleshooting wheel at the beginning of the Guide). Replace defective and worn tires.

In the course of checking the car must be completely unloaded, which implies the presence of a normal fuel tank. Tire inflation pressure must conform to the standards (see. Table sizes and adjustments in the end of this manual).

The corners of the transverse and longitudinal inclination of the axis of rotation wheel

The corners of the transverse and longitudinal (coasting) caster wheels are set at the factory and can not be adjusted. Any changes in these parameters are talking about worn or damaged suspension components.

Camber

Camber is also installed on the production and not subject to adjustment. Any change it should be regarded as a sign of wear or damage to the suspension components.

Some shops specializing in suspension geometry adjustment wheel-drive vehicles are taken for the implementation of adjustment angles of inclination of the axis of rotation of the wheels and the collapse by installing shims, eccentric bearings or special wedges. The drafters of the Guidelines recommend that before embarking on a replacement chassis components to consult an expert of one of these workshops.

PERFORMANCE ORDER

  1. Park the car on level ground. Poddomkratte the front of the car and establish it on props.
  2. Alternately turning both front wheels, draw a chalk line on the tread of the tire, preferably as close as possible to the center.
  3. Lower the car to the ground and set the wheels in a straight-ahead position.
  4. Draw chalk centerlines of both wheels at about 20 ÷ 25 cm above the ground in front of the hub of the suspension.
  5. Get between the wheels at the right marks along the length of the measuring rod. Record the distance between the centers of the tires at the central level marks.
  6. Hold the wheel in the straight position, car rental in advance so that conducted earlier mark were again at 20 ÷ 25 cm above the ground, but this time behind the wheel hubs.
  7. Repeat the measurement of the distance between the centers of tire marks on the level.
  8. The result of the first measurement should be different from the second to the value of the agreed standards (see. Table sizes and adjustments in the end of this manual).
  9. If necessary, loosen the adjustment straps connecting the two tips of steering draft.
  10. Adjust convergence by tilting rod thrust.
  11. Tighten clamps tips without changing the position of the rod tube.
  12. Repeat the procedure to verify the convergence.
