Check and adjust the idle speed of the engine and the level of CO

Twice a year or every 10,000 kilometers (whichever comes first)

Idling adjusted at the factory and no further adjustment is required.

Only if the CO after prolonged use ceases to conform to the standards, the carburetor must be adjusted.

Carburetor

Before checking and adjusting the following items must be in perfect condition:

PERFORMANCE ORDER

  1. When installed servo set the front wheels to the center position. It should be cock a manual brake.
    • The battery must be charged.
    • The levels of motor oil and coolant must comply with the required values.
    • All vacuum hoses must be connected.
    • Intake air must be tight.
    • Cylinders must have a good compression.
    • Exhaust gas return system must work flawlessly.
    • The throttle should open and close well.
    • Turn off all electrical consumers such as lights, heater fan, rear window heater and so on. D.
    • The cooling fan must not run.
  1. Warm up the engine, t. E. Arrow remote thermometer should stand in the middle position. While adjusting the engine must maintain its operating temperature, t. E. The engine should be run in the pauses to warm it up again. The engine must operate at a speed of less than 1000 rev / min.
  2. Connect the tachometer according to the instruction manual.
  3. Start the engine and watch from the viewing window of the carburettor, make sure that the fuel level was at the midline.
  4. Accelerate the engine two or three minutes before the number of revolutions 2000 - 3000 rev / min and then allow to work for one minute at idle.
  5. Remove the tachometer value is idle. The engine must operate at a speed of 750 ? 50 rev / min.
  6. If the idle speed does not correspond to the desired value, rotate the screw until the value does not lie within the required limits. If the idle speed can not be adjusted, and all of the above system in good condition, it may be necessary to replace the carburetor.
Bolt thumb is to adjust the carburetor.
  1. Stop the engine. The tachometer is connected.
  2. In the middle of the exhaust manifold cover disconnect the lambda probe connector. The second plug should be disconnected from the intake air control valve. It is in the position shown in the illustration on the right side of the ignition coil to the strut (if you stand in front of the engine compartment).
The position of the intake air control valve (1) near the ignition coil (2).
  1. Right next to the heat shield of the exhaust manifold, it is possible to see the intake pipe for the measurement of CO. Remove the cap of the tube and connect the device for measurement of CO, in accordance with the instructions. The connection between the measuring device and the tube should be sealed.
  2. Start the engine, disperse it to 2000 - 3000 rev / min, and then return to idle. Consider reading. The value should be in the range 1.0 ? 0.5%. If the CO does not correspond to the desired value, turn the adjustment screw to be inserted into the block throttle. It is closed with a seal to prevent unauthorized rotation. Since the carburetor should be removed, among other things, and to drill the seal, this work is recommended to a specialist workshop. The illustration shows the location of the seal. If you work alone, you can not drill too deep seal. After drilling the seals, replace the carburetor and turn the screw inside the ordinary screwdriver, until the value of the CO will not lie to the extent necessary. After adjustment, recheck idle and finally insert the new seal in the hole. Carburetor for this shoot is not required.
Seal (1) for the adjustment screw of CO in the throttle body (2) can be drilled in this manner using a drill (3).

Cars without catalytic converter

Idling is regulated, as well as models with a catalyst, but to adjust the composition of the mixture requires a special screwdriver, which is inserted in the notch of the adjusting screw (see. Illustration below), tachometer, and for best results the instrument for the measurement of CO. If necessary, work can be carried out without the last fixture, if strictly follow the instructions, however, should be aware of the laws on environmental protection.

PERFORMANCE ORDER

  1. First, adjust the idle speed.
  2. Make already described preparatory operations and read the tachometer. If idle lie outside the 750 ? 50 rev / min, the idle speed must be adjusted. The adjusting screw idle looks the same as shown in the Check CO content using an appropriate meter, adjust if necessary.

A special screwdriver to adjust the composition of the mixture at idle.

Without a meter of CO

PERFORMANCE ORDER

  1. Check that the engine had its operating temperature.
  2. To adjust the composition of the mixture has a screw for adjusting the idle screw. Fully screw the screw with the special screwdriver (not too much) and turn out two full turns. Idle speed should thus increase 50 rev / min, compared to the existing value.
  3. With the help of a special screwdriver to turn the adjusting screw of the mixture to the engine worked with the greatest possible speed. Then screw the adjusting screw idle until the engine will not work with the relevant Specifications speed. CO content should more or less correspond to the desired value, ie. E. Should be in the range 1.5 ? 0.5%.

With meter of CO

PERFORMANCE ORDER

  1. Adjust the idle speed, as already described.
  2. Check that the engine has had its operating temperature.
  3. Connect measuring the CO content. The hose should be pushed into the exhaust pipe at least 40 cm.
  4. Through the inspection window, check the carburetor to fuel level stood on the middle line.
  5. With the help of a special screwdriver to turn the adjustment screw of the mixture so that the device shows the value of 1.5 ? 0.5%.
  6. Repeat the adjustment until the CO and the number of revolutions will not meet the required values.

Multi-point fuel injection system

Adjustment of idling and the maintenance WITH usually maintained automatically control device, but it is possible that the adjustment should be carried out if after a long idling operation does not meet the requirements. It is best to contact the workshop Nissan, but if you closely follow the following description, you can adjust the idle speed yourself.

Before checking and adjustment to be performed the following conditions, ie. E. The following elements and systems must be in perfect condition.

PERFORMANCE ORDER

  1. Install the front wheels to the center position, tighten a manual brake.
  2. The battery should be charged well.
  3. The ignition system must be in good condition and work perfectly.
  4. The level of the motor oil and coolant must comply with the required values.
  5. All vacuum hoses must be connected.
  6. Intake air must be tight.
  7. Compression cylinders must comply with the required values.
  8. The throttle must be fully opened and closed.
  9. All fuses should be inserted.
  10. Turn off all electrical consumers, ie. E., For example, lights, heater fan, rear window heater and so on. D.
  11. When measuring the CO content of the measuring tube, insert the device into the exhaust at least 40 cm.
  12. In an automatic transmission, set the lever in position ?N?.
  13. Turn off the air conditioner.
  14. Fan should not be working.
  15. When checking idle, proceed as follows:
  16. Warm up the engine, t. E. Arrow remote thermometer should be in the middle position. When adjusting the engine must be at operating temperature, t. E. The engine pauses again and start warming up. The engine must operate at a speed of less than 1000 rev / min.
  17. Stop the engine and connect the tachometer according to the instructions.
  18. On the engine off get the throttle position sensor (see. and remove the plug. Start the engine.
  19. Accelerate the engine for 2 or 3 minutes before the 2000 - 3000 rev / min and then leave for two minutes idling.
  20. Remove the readings with a tachometer. The engine must operate at a speed of 800 rev / min.
  21. If the idling speed is not correct, rotate the screw (1) (see. Graphic below), while the number of revolutions reaches the desired value. When the left rotation speed decreases while rotating to the right increases. If the idle speed can not be established, and all of the above systems and components are in good condition, contact a workshop Nissan.

Type of additional air valve and associated components

1 - a bolt of adjustment of the twentieth
2 - the valve of additional air
3 - switching valve
  1. Stop the engine. The tachometer is connected.
  2. Turn the engine off, connect the plug of the throttle position sensor and restart the engine.
  3. Accelerate the engine 2-3 times to 2000 rev / min and read the idle and rev counter. The speed must be within 850 ? 50 rev / min. Unsatisfactory idling may be due to additional air valve, cable or electronic control unit.
  4. Measure the CO content in accordance with the instructions to the measuring device. If the value is not equal to 0.5%, it is necessary to find the cause of this workshop. Precise measurement and adjustment of CO is associated with some difficulties and therefore can not be described.

System of the central injection

Position adjustment screw of idling (1) on the engine SR20Di.

Injection system adjusts automatically to the idle setpoint.

Idling adjusted accurately by adjusting the amount of air which bypasses the throttle valve via the additional air. Additional air valve is turned on and off in order to accurately control the amount of air. Crank angle sensor monitors the current engine speed information and notifies the control unit. Based on these data the control unit activates or deactivates the additional air valve to maintain the idle speed to a pre-programmed value. Other factors, such as the engine warm, coasting, fuel consumption and engine load (air conditioner, electric load) is automatically evaluated and compensated.

Although this is usually not required, idling can be checked and adjusted. Before checking and adjusting must satisfy the requirements given for multi-point fuel injection system. Checking idling operation is the same as described above for the carburetor. Vehicles with manual and automatic transmissions have the same number of turns of idling.

Air filter

Removing and installing the air filter element. Left engine SR20DE, the right engine SR20Di.

The air filter has a paper item that can not be cleaned. The filter element must be replaced every two years or every 60,000 km. To remove an element remove the cover and take out the old batteries. Fig. above shows the removal of the filter element on both engines. The collected dust should be removed from the filter housing with a cloth. Insert the new filter element and install the cover.
