Auto-dimming rearview mirror

Rear-view mirror with auto dimming

1 - control;

2 - Front photosensor;

3 - Rear photosensor;

4 - the protective glass;

5 - an electrolyte layer;

6 - protective glass;

7 - mirror;

8 - a conductive layer

Auto-dimming inside rearview mirror is made continuously, if there is glare from behind. The system consists of mirrors and electronics with two photo sensors.

The electronic control unit of the mirror (1) receives information from the photosensors (2 and 3). If back lighting is greater than the front, the electronics energizes the conductive coating (8) which is arranged between the protective glass (4 and 6) of the mirror. Depending on the magnitude of the applied voltage changes the transparency of the electrolyte layer (5). The higher voltage is applied, the darker the electrolyte layer. Because of this it reduces the intensity of light reflection from the mirror (7).
