Cylinder Head
Removing the cylinder head Removing the cylinder head in the following order: - Park the vehicle on a level surface and secure it; - Remove the hood from the vehicle; - Disconnect the negative terminal of the battery; - Drain the engine oil from the engine; - Drain the coolant from the cooling system; - Remove the auxiliary drive belts; - Set the first cylinder to TDC;

- Loosen the clamps and disconnect the radiator hoses from the fittings on the head 1 (see. Fig. 3.68.) Of the cylinder; - Loosen the clamps and remove the hoses and heater expansion tank with the fittings of the cylinder head; - For easy access to the engine, remove the upper front transverse trim, headlights, grille and hood latch; - Disconnect the pipe supplying fuel injectors; - Disconnect the fuel return pipe connecting the fuel pump with the nozzle; - Mark (not to mix with the assembly) and unplug electrical connectors; - Remove the cylinder head cover (see. Sec. 3.3.10); - Remove the timing belt front cover and remove the timing belt from a camshaft pulley; - Remove the timing belt tensioner, camshaft pulley and the pulley of the fuel pump. - Unscrew the screws and remove the back casing of the timing belt; - Disconnect the connector from the coolant temperature sensor; - Unscrew bolts and disconnect a reception exhaust pipe from the exhaust manifold. For vehicles equipped with turbocharger: - Remove the turbocharger to the exhaust manifold; - Where established, remove the EGR valve and the pipe connecting the inlet and exhaust manifolds; - Loosen the nut supply tire contact glow 4-cylinder; - Cnimite spring ring and remove the harness plug from the cylinder head; - Check that all hoses, pipes and wires are disconnected from the cylinder head; - The sequence in reverse order tightening, loosen the screws 5 (see. Fig. 3.68), the cylinder head first on turnover of 0.5-1, and then turn them completely; - Remove the cylinder head of the engine 1; - Remove the spacer 2 of the cylinder head from the top of the cylinder. Do not discard the old gasket - it will need to identify the new; - Remove the cylinder guide pins if they sit freely and may fall out, and store them together with the cylinder head; - Unscrew the screws and remove the cylinder head and intake manifold gasket; - Unscrew the screws and remove the heat-shield from the exhaust manifold; - Unscrew the nut and remove the exhaust manifold to the cylinder head; - Clean the mating surfaces of the intake and exhaust manifold and cylinder head. Install the exhaust manifold with the new gasket on the cylinder head and secure it with nuts to the specified torque; - Set the screen on the heat-resistant racks exhaust manifold nuts and secure it to the specified torque; - Install the intake manifold with a new gasket on the cylinder head and secure it with screws to the specified torque.
Installing the cylinder head Before installing the cylinder head is necessary to carry out the following preparatory work: - Clean the mating surface of the head and cylinder block. For their clearing use a firm plastic or wooden scraper; - Check the mating surfaces of the cylinder head and the presence of notches, deep scratches and other damage. If the defects are small, they can be removed by grinding. But major defects parts must be replaced;
A WARNING When cleaning, be careful, as the aluminum alloy is very easily damaged. Make sure that the deposit has not got to oil channels and coolant channels. If necessary, clean the channels. |
- Flatness check mating surfaces using a metal ruler; - Clean the bolt holes in the block. Tightening the screws in the aperture filled with oil can break off the block because of hydraulic pressure. - Irrespective of their state of the bolts of the cylinder head must be replaced. The installation of the cylinder head in the following order: - Check the marking (the number on the edge of the pads or holes) of the old cylinder head gasket; - If the repair pistons are not changed, the new cylinder head gasket should have the same markings as the old; - If the new engine has pistons, the pistons need to measure protrusion of the cylinder block and in accordance with this size is necessary to choose the thickness of a new cylinder head gasket (see. Table. 3.5) - Install a new cylinder head gasket on the guide pins so that the marking "TOP" facing upwards;
HELPFUL ADVICE Take two used bolt cylinder head, cut off the head and the end of the bolt, propylene slot screwdriver. Screw bolts to the engine block, and they will serve as a guide when installing the cylinder head. After installation of the cylinder head they should turn. |
- Set the cylinder head. - Lubricate the thread and the back of the heads of new bolts of the cylinder head with engine oil; - Gently, without throwing, vstvte bolts of the cylinder head into the holes and tighten them by hand;

|
- In divided doses (see. Section 3.1.1), tighten the bolts of the cylinder head in the order shown in Fig. 3.70; - Establish a back casing of the timing belt; - Set the timing belt tensioner and pulleys; - Make sure that the first cylinder is in TDC position and set the timing belt and timing belt outer casing; - Installation remove components made in sequence, return to removal; - Pour in the engine engine oil; - Fill the cooling system.
