Removal and installation of the water pump
The water pump can not be repaired. In case of failure the pump must be replaced. When a fault gland coolant flows to the cylinder block. The water pump is driven by a V-belt. Removing the engine E1, EZ, E5 | - Disconnect earth cable from the battery.
 | This data is erased from the memory of malfunctions of the engine or a protective code of a radio receiver. Before disconnecting the battery should read instructions in Section Removal and installation of the battery. |
| - Remove the lower trim the engine -1-.
|
- Drain and collect the coolant.
- Loosen the bolts of the water pump pulley.
- Remove the V-belt -2-, see chap. Gasoline engines, Section Removal and installation / belt tension.
- Loosen the water pump pulley -5.
- Disconnect coolant hose -3-, after loosening the clamp.
- Unscrew the bolts of the water pump -5- and remove the water pump with a bypass pipe system -4.

Setting | - To put on a new bypass pipe lining.
- Insert the water pump so that the overflow pipe is completely sitting at the pump. Tighten bolts with a force of 30 Nm.
- Check that the water pump rotates freely and never caught on.
- Fit coolant hose and secure the clamp.
- Install the pulley and tighten by hand.
- Install the V-belt, see. Chapter Gasoline engines, Section Removal and installation / belt tension.
- Tighten the belt pulley.
- Adding coolant.
- Connect the earth cable to the battery.
- If available, set the clock and set the security code radio.
- After the test drive, check the tightness of the cooling system.

Removing engine OT, B5, B6, BP | - Disconnect earth cable from the battery.

- Drain and collect the coolant.
- Remove the belt cover himself toothed belt, see. Chapter Gasoline engines, Section Removal and installation of a gear belt of engines VZ, B5, B6 (SOHC), BP (SOHC).
- Engine BP (DOHC): Pull out the dipstick and unscrew the dipstick guide tube.
| - Unscrew the water fitting -1- and remove the bypass pipe -3-.

- Engine BP (DOHC): Unscrew the guide rollers and tension spring.
- Unscrew the bolts of the water pump and remove the pump -5.

Setting | - Clean the sealing surface of the cylinder block, the water pump and the water fittings first scraper and then wipe with a cloth to remove any residual sealing.
- Carefully insert a new pump with a new gasket -5 -6. Tighten bolts to 25 Nm.
- Engine BP (DOHC): Set the guide and tension rollers with spring and tightened to 45 Nm.
- Fit a new gasket on the bypass conduit -4 -3.
- Install a water pipe -1- c -4- new gasket and tightened to 25 Nm.
- To establish and pull the toothed belt, see. Chapter Gasoline engines, Section Removal and installation of a gear belt of engines VZ, B5, B6 (SOHC), BP (SOHC).
- Adding coolant.
- Connect the earth cable to the battery.
- If available, set the clock and set the security code radio.
- Warm up the engine. Then set the car on a dry surface and check the tightness of the cooling system.

Removing diesel engine Setting | - Clean the sealing surface of the cylinder block, the water pump and the water fittings first scraper and then wipe with a cloth to remove any residual sealing.
- Carefully insert a new pump with a new gasket -3- -4-. Tighten bolts to 25 Nm.
- Screw the guide tube 2-dipstick with a force of 25 Nm to insert the probe.
- Insert new gasket -1-.
- To establish and pull the toothed belt, see. Chapter Gasoline engines, Section Removal and installation of a gear belt of engines VZ, B5, B6 (SOHC), BP (SOHC).
- Adding coolant.
- Connect the earth cable to the battery.
- If available, set the clock and set the security code radio.
- Warm up the engine. Then set the car on a dry place and check the tightness of the cooling system.
