Removal and installation of camshafts

Engines BP (DOHC)

Withdrawal

PERFORMANCE ORDER

  1. Remove the spark plug, see. Chapter Introduction.
  2. Remove the cylinder head cover gasket.
  3. Install the crankshaft position corresponding to the top dead center of the piston of 1st cylinder. See section Removing and installing toothed belt (DOHC).

The position of the crankshaft then more should not be changed.

  1. Remove the timing belt. See Section Removal and installation of a gear belt of engines VZ, B5, B6 (SOHC), BP (SOHC).
  2. Remove the ignition distributor, see. Chapter Ignition system, Section Removal and installation of the distributor of ignition.
  1. Hold camshafts key, unscrew the bolts gears. Remove the camshaft gears, if necessary, to bring down the light blows of a rubber hammer.

Gears removed carefully so as not to lose the guide pins.

  1. Unscrew the sealing plate.
  1. Check axial play of the camshaft. Desired value: 0.07 - 0.19 mm. The maximum allowable axial play of 0.20 mm. If this value is exceeded, it is necessary to replace the camshaft and possibly the cylinder head.
  1. Mark bearing caps with chalk or felt-tipped pen to when installing them can be established on former places, and in the same position.
  1. Evenly loosen the bearing caps of inlet and exhaust camshafts in several passes in the order shown and remove the cover.
  1. Remove camshafts with old seals.

Setting

Since the axial clearance is extremely small camshaft, the camshaft during installation must be kept in a horizontal position. To achieve this you must follow these requirements. If the camshaft during installation will be skewed, it can be damaged by the shaft itself or cylinder head.

PERFORMANCE ORDER

  1. To cover all the places camshaft supports a small amount of engine oil.
  2. Insert camshafts.
  1. Apply a shaded place sealant based on silicone (eg, DOW CORNING Q3-7057).

On neck bearings applied sealant should not.

  1. Install all bearing caps according to the labeling.
  1. Tighten bearing caps with a torque wrench in the above sequence. Tightening is carried out in two passes.
  • 1st pass: 10 Nm
  • 2nd pass: 15 Nm
  1. Lubricate camshaft seals and their place of landing a small amount of engine oil. Carefully score the gland pipe of the same diameter. Score gaskets so that they are flush with the cylinder head.

Seals during installation not to warp.

  1. Install a sealing plate and tighten the bolts with a force of 10 Nm.
  2. Clear camshaft gear from oil and water.
  1. Rotate camshafts to guide pins are facing upward.
  1. Install the camshaft gears up marks I (inlet side), E (the outlet side).
  2. Tighten the camshaft with a force of 60 Nm. In this case, hold the wheel wrench.

When tightening camshaft not to damage the cylinder head key.

  1. To establish and pull the toothed belt, see. Section Removal and installation of a gear belt of engines VZ, B5, B6 (SOHC), BP (SOHC).
  1. Apply a shaded place sealant based on silicone (eg, DOW CORNING Q 3-7057).
  1. Install the cylinder head cover gasket and tightened to 10 Nm.
  2. Set the ignition distributor, see. Chapter Ignition system, Section Removal and installation of the distributor of ignition.
